Special staging highlights FIU's 'Night of the Iguana'
An innovative concept in staging will be one highlight on Wednesday, May 5 at 8 p.m. when Florida International University premiers its production of The Night of the Iguana by Tennessee Williams. The stage setting will stretch across the center of the theatre with the audience seated on either side to create a direct actor-audience relationship. The play will run from May 5 to 9 and May 12 to 16 at 8 p.m. each evening in the University Theatre (VH 100). Call 552-2895 for tickets and reservations.
Cole Porter
A long title with two key words, Cole Porter, marks the opening of the Players Repertory Theater's new musical revue Saturday, May 1 for a five-week stay. The Decline and Fall of the Entire World As Seen Through the Eyes of Cole Porter is a musical revue making its Florida premier at Players. Performances, Thursday through Sundays, will star William Hindman, Flora Lerman, Ed Lupinski, Wendy Dillion and company director Dan Duckworth in the auditorium of the Museum of Science, 3280 S. Miami Ave. For tickets and reservation (with dinner theater and special group rates now offered) call 854-0945.
Museum to benefit
The Museum of Science, 3280 S. Miami Ave., will reap the benefits of a special performance of the Player's Cole Porter revue on Monday, May 10. Local groups participating in the benefit include the Musettes, the Players, Patrons of the Museum, Museum Guild, the Women's Latin American Division and the Key Biscayne Friends. A champagne reception will follow the performance and tickets are available by calling 854-4242.
Children's theater
King Winter, a fairy tale explaining the season of the year to children, will be performed Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Merry-Go-Round Theater, 325 Alca-zar. Ivan Kivitt wrote the play which stars Danny Mason and Laury Thourton.
Drawing delights
On Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 12:30, an art seminar — which will sketch different locations from Vizcaya to Matheson Hammock — is being arranged by Carolyn Martin For prices and details, call Ms. Martin at 446-7203.
130th production
The Coral Gables Country Club Theater group, the oldest continuing little theater in Dade, is preparing to stage the Moss Hart comedy "Light Up the Sky" from May 4 to 7. The cast includes, from left to right, Doris Plowden, Bruce McLaughlin, Joan Hand and Ken Wittich, Jr., here rehearsing a scene from the comedy, the group's 130th production.
