CG Chamber bestows honors on 58 top Cavalier students

Members of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce honored their eventual successors at noon Tuesday, May 12, with a luncheon for 58 Gables High School honor students. The Business Education Committee of the Chamber served Salisbury steak and free enterprise philosophy to students and their parents, with the City Commission in head-table attendance. Guest speaker, Burger King's Chairman of the Board James McLamore, told students that the first Burger King restaurant had a sign reading "This is a profit making organization. This is how we intended it and that's the way it is." Quoting a Gables High survey that showed 75 per cent of the students in favor of government price controls, McLamore praised the "American Work Ethic. That's initiative, drive and ambition to build something of value. Free enterprise built this country into the greatest in the world. I commend it to you." Business Education committee Chairman Terry Jaramillo then introduced Chamber Margaret St. Germain, who gave honors certificates to the students, all 1976 graduates with 3.4 average or better.
