the times/guide visits . . . alice and norm miller | Who lives here? No partridge in a pear tree but lots of owls
the times/guide visits . . . alice and norm miller Who lives here? No partridge in a pear tree but lots of owls By DOROTHY STEIN Staff Writer There are something like 300 species of owls in the world, of which approximately 20 are found in North America, and probably more than that in Alice and Norm Miller's beautiful Kendall home. The Millers are not ornithologists, in fact, very few of the hundred or so owls in their home are the feathered variety. Perched on four lucite shelves in their dining room are dozens of these creatures made of stone, clay, silver, gold, crystal, copper, wood, tin, fur . . . even a highly stylized one carved from a whale's tooth. Some are whimsical, some owlishly serious; they sit alone on pedestals, or with their families on driftwood logs. Other owls peep out of bookcases, hang on walls, and adorn tables, shelves and sofas in the form of needlepointed pillows, pictures, bookends, ashtrays, salt-and-pepper shakers, hors d'oeuvres picks, cigarette lighters, memo pad holders, chimes, candles, planters, soap, towels (yes, even an "owl towel"), ceramic plaques, and macrame [TEXT LOST] The owls have it at this home. Below, owl-decorated pillows occupying the living room sofa, along with Alice who started the owl collection by chance. And right, the owl and the pussycat sit side by side with Norm . . . but of course, the cat is real.
