school slate Local students take honors in junior fair Well over a thousand dollars in merchandise was sold at the first Junior Achievement of Greater Miami trade fair, which was held recently at Midway Mall. About 100 high school students representing 28 miniature companies participated in the fair and the top winners were two Southwest area students. Twenty-five dollar savings bonds went to Joe Toth, a student at Christopher Columbus High School, and Linda Kerr of Miami Coral Park for the highest sales at the trade fair. Toth of Lite Creations, sponsored by Florida Power and Light, sold $100 worth of merchandise. Miss Kerr, whose company, sponsored by Haskins and Sells, is called Sun 'N Surf, sold $87 in merchandise. Winter term Merrick Community School, located at 39 Zamora Ave., is now taking registrations for its winter term. Classes are available for children in ballet, leathercrafts, judo, chess, typing and gymnastics. A wide variety of classes sponsored for adults in the evening include: oil painting, tennis, Spanish, belly dancing, knitting, yoga, slimnastics and bridge. For more information about the 70 different classes offered at Merrick call 448-1639 between 3 and 10 p.m.
Teaching offered at Dade South
Miami Dade Community College South Campus is offering a partical course in substitute teaching designed for those interested in this part-time profession. Registration is now being held at the Registrar's Office, 11011 SW 104th St. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Alfred L. McCarthy Building, Room 6314. The fee is $5.
Creativity
Joseph Bayly ... noted author Creativity "Helping Children Be Creative" will be the topic of a Miami-area lecture by noted author Joseph Bayly. Bayly will be speaking Thursday evening, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Flagami Baptist Church, 860 SW 76th Ct. Sponsored by Miami Christian School, the lecture is free and the public is invited to attend. Best known for his books Gospel Blimp and View from a Hearse, Bayly is vice-president of David C. Cook Publishing Co. He also writes a monthly column in Eternity magazine and is consulting editor for that publication.
Leisure Time
Tamiami Park, 11201 SW 24th St., announced that the following leisure time programs will be offered to adults 18 and older after the first of the year: Ceramics, handbuilt ceramics, slimnastics, ladies exercise, ladies self-defense and macrame. All classes are open to the public and for further information call Ms. Shari Nerove at 223-7072.
