The words spell f-u-n for players
By ANA MARIA ALVAREZ Staff Writer The main attraction is a word game called S-C-R-A-B-B-L-E. People from all walks of life and of all ages spend many hours playing the board game for a variety of reasons. Some say it's relaxing, others like the competitive spirit behind it, while still others enjoy learning new words while they play. Marlene Schulke, a Southwest area resident, has been playing Scrabble for about 16 years and will be participating in the tournament Sunday. A member of the Miami Mensa Club, Mrs. Schulke says the game is a real natural for her because she really likes words. "Every game is a unique experience," she said. "Every game poses a different problem, making it a real challenge," she said. Although she admits that many of her competitors spend hours studying the dictionary Mrs. Schulke said that she plays the game about once a week just for pure enjoyment. Greg Johnson, the Coral Gables Scrabble champion, has been mounting word game strategies for about a year. Johnson, who runs the Coconut Grove Bookworm shop, says he has met people from all walks of life and of all ages who are avid players of the game. "I play for fun. You develop quite a crazy little four word vocabulary when you play Scrabble," Johnson said. The bookshop owner won first place in the Coral Gables
