Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Wood, 1001 Coral Way are divided, politically. He is a Democrat, she is a Republican. "We have been happily married for over 20 years," the airlines pilot said. Mrs. Wood, president of the Coral Gables Republican Women's Club, will attend the Florida Federated Republican Women's Club meeting May 9-12 at the Daytona Plaza Hotel, Daytona. Also going from the Gables club are Mrs Enoch Erickson, Mrs. James Leichister and Miss Maude Whiteleather. Mrs. Jefferson Everson, 5111 Maggiore St., will tell you all about the "crowning glories" (hats) St. Catherine's Chapter, St. Thomas Episcopal Church will sell from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, at the church. The hats are all new. She is chairman. Mrs. Blanch Curry, 1115 Malaga Ave., will join her longtime friend, Mrs. Charles Shortell of Long Beach in New York May 10. Together they will sail abroad aboard the Queen Elizabeth. Ann (Mrs. George) Kasay, secretary in Mayor Robert L. Searle's real estate office wasn't there Friday night at the Riviera Country Club, when the mayor acted as master of ceremonies for the annual bosses dinner of the Coral Gables Chapter National Secretaries Association. Reason? She was home, having just had a baby, a boy and the first child for the Kasay's. Mr. and Mrs. William C. Parker are busy arranging their furniture (shipped from Detroit) in their recently acquired home at 300 Viscaya Ave. Nearby Mrs. E. R. Jones, a sister of Mrs. Parker's resides on Natoma Ave. with her family. Times staffer Maurise Labelle and his wife Lillian have as their house guests, Mr. and Mrs. Roberto Yanez of Medellin, Colombia. They are having a ball. Leceria (Mrs. Yanez) speaks only Spanish and her hostess, Lill, speaks only English. Maurice and Roberto, a mining engineer, served for three years in the Air Force together as radarmen. This is their first reunion in 12 years. Members of the Coral Gables Garden Club are up in the clouds, or should we say down to earth. There are big plans afoot for a permanent Garden Center in the Gables. The plans will be made known at the club's May breakfast to be held May 23rd at the Kings Bay Yacht and Country Club. Mrs. Malcolm R. Lovell will be seated for her second year as president.

Pi Beta Phi Is Honored At Luncheon

Mrs. H. O. Varty, 6501 Leonardi St., welcomed members of the local alumnae association, Pi Beta Phi fraternity at a luncheon Saturday. It was the fraternity's 9 [?] anniversary. Mrs. Varty passed the gavel to Mrs. James F. Moore, 6908 Altamira Ave., as the new president. Phi Beta Phi, founded at Monmouth College Monmouth, Ill., became the first national sorority for college women. The word "sorority" was not in use then and Pi Phi's still use the fraternity.

Miss Rose Walters Will Be Installed by BPW

MISS WALTERS MISS MANNING Miss Rose Walters Will Be Installed by BPW The years have rolled by, 33 of them, since Nina "Peg" Manning was installed as the first president of the Coral Gables Business and Professional Women's Club. Miss Manning will install the 1961-62 officers of the veteran club at 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the Riviera Country Club. Miss Rose A. Walters will be the new president. Other Coral Gables resident officers are Marge Powers, first vice president; and Mrs. Elizabeth Poorman, corresponding secretary.

JAYCEE HEDGE

The Coral Gables City Commission Tuesday authorized expenditure of "up to $300" for planting of a hibiscus hedge at Jaycee Park.

ON A 10-DAY CRUISE to the West Indies are Mr. and Mrs. Douglas A. Harrison and son, Randy, 545 San Antonio Ave. aboard the SS Evangeline.

Harting And Blohm Tie At Riviera

Mrs. Billie Harting and Mrs. Carl Blohm, with 1 under par, tied for Class A honors Tuesday during golf guest day at Riviera Country Club. Class B. winner was Mrs. A. M. Franklin with two under par. Mrs. D. B. Browne won Class C with four over par. Guests who won were Mrs. Tony McCracken, Mrs. Charles Troxell, Mrs. Albert Anderson, Mrs. Howard Plasmann and Mrs. Edna Kaspar.

In the Swim

Can your child swim? Should he swim better than he does? Swimming classes for children 6 years old or over will begin June 12, at Venetian Pool under the direction of the Venetian Aquatic Club. Registration for the two week sessions is under way Monday through Friday at the Coral Gables Youth Center office, or can be made by calling Mrs. Joan Monahan at HI 8-2567 from noon to 5 p.m. All students must pass the test of the preceeding course on the first day of each two-week session in order to enter the class for which they are registered.

Mrs. Stern Is Chosen UM Cancer Unit President

Mrs. Louis Stern, 1100 Alberca Ave., is the new president of the Nina Opland Chapter, the Woman's Cancer Association of the University of Miami. Installation ceremonies were held at the home of Mrs. August Torres, 2522 Madrid St. Mrs. Felix Spratt, 1535 Cortez St., is the first vice president; Mrs. Ella Broome, 1110 Columbus Blvd., second vice president; Mrs. Frank Salichs, 6811 Portillo St. secretary. Mrs. C. R. Cunningham, 7741 Ponce de Leon Blvd., corresponding secretary and Mrs. Don Crosby, 6200 Le Jeune Rd. treasurer.
