HANKINS William W. Hankins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wood E. Hankins, 912 Tangier Ave., and a student at Duke University, is undergoing three weeks' amphibious warfare training at the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base, Norfolk, Va. * * * Did you know that Margaret Biggerstaff, assistant to the director of the Marine Laboratory, University of Miami, was at one time a concert violinist, then owned her own public relations firm in New York City? However, Mrs. Biggerstaff likes the water and wants to be near it. She resides on Key Biscayne. * * * Annual fund raising bridge party, sponsored by the members of the Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club at 1 p.m. Wednesday, has a cute name— "Beat the Heat." Mrs. Marvin Wheeler, MO 7-8230, is taking reservations. Proceeds will go to the redecorating, which includes air-conditioning fund at the club house, 1001, E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Hodsdon, their daughter, Martha, and son Nick, are vacationing in Highlands, N.C. where they have a summer home. Martha will go from there to Winston-Salem where she has accepted a teaching position. Nick will fly from Anderson, S.C. the first of September, for Tulane University, New Orleans for his junior year. * * * Gary D. Hopps, chief aviation ordnanceman, USN, is now in pre-flight training and officer indoctrination at the Naval Pre-Flight School, Naval Air Station, Pensacola. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton L. Hopps, of 40 Salamanca Ave. Col. E. K. (Jack) Ballard Jr., Air Force Reserve, and Mrs. Ballard (Dorathi), of 12220 Moss Ranch Rd., are receiving congratulations from friends because of his recent promotion to full colonel. He was attending the Defense Strategy Seminar at the National War College in Washington when a friend from San Antonio, Tex., called to give Mrs. Ballard the good news. Mrs. Ballard told her husband the next day. He is immediate past president of the Coral Gables Reserve Officers Association and is at present State Fourth District Committeeman.

We Can Top Them

You may have seen the spread about a fourth-generation Fairchild child in last Sunday's Herald. Well, we've got our own fifth-generation Miamian. Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Coppock Jr., 536 Jeronimo Dr., became grandparents for the seventh time last week. Their son, Lorin III and Jean, his wife, had a baby boy last Wednesday. They reside at 8400 SW 142nd St. This is their fourth child. They have named him David. David's great-great-grandfather, Samuel Wampler, was one of Miami's early settlers. He lived on Lawrence Drive, now 12th Avenue, and Seventh Street, at the turn of the century. David's grandparents are the owners of the Riviera Day School. The Coppocks' daughter, Alice, is visiting them now with her husband, the Rev. Charles Warden. They live in Bradenton and have three children. "We'll fill Riviera Day School with grandchildren if this keeps up," quipped Mrs. Coppock.
