Mortgage Rule Shift Not for Us

Coral Gables' two Federal savings and loan associations will not be affected by liberalized mortgage loan policies just announced in Washington. The new regulations move maximum length from 25 to 30 years on Federally-chartered savings and loan association mortgages. They also extend mortgage loans for 90% of the home's value up to $25,000 (old rule was $20,000). The new maximum loan is $26,500 (taking in 80% of the loan above $25,000) as contrasted with the old limit of $22,000. The regulations apply to single family dwellings. A spokesman for Coral Gables Federal said his institution does not expect to make use of the liberalized terms. He said few loans are now made even at 25 years. At University Federal, an official said that the fact that his organization is so youthful and has not yet put 5% of its assets into reserves prohibits it from making use of the new regulations.
