by helen reynolds society editor Mrs. Horace Cordes and Mrs. Malcolm McDonald will entertain at a tea Saturday, at the home of Mrs. Cordes, 4315 San Amaro Dr. Honor guest will be Miss Marilyn Norton, bride-elect of Jack Moore. The McDonalds, 3904 Durango St., gave a buffet supper honoring the couple Saturday evening. Setting for the party was the McDonald corner garden with colored electric lights strung among the tall treetops. It was perfect night for this type party. Guests included company associates of Jack's, invited by Mac, a vice president of Florida Power and Light Company to meet Jack's fiance, who is woman's page editor of the Miami Daily News. Jack, incidentally is a brother of James B. Moore, former editor of the Riviera Times, and now an executive of the Scan-O-Graver Corp. The McDonald's son, Scott, a student at the University of Miami is in Europe for the next seven weeks. * * * Camille Brigham, world traveler who resides at 1225 Obispo Ave., sends us a copy of the "La Hacioh" a 44 page tabloid newspaper published in San Jose, Costa Rica, Central America. Camille is a guest at the Royal Dutch Hotel there. * * * Howard Wakefield Pettengill III, was born Thursday, Aug. 3rd at the Naval Hospital, Jacksonville. His excited dad, Dr. Howard W. Pettengill Jr., called his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Pettengill, of 2613 Cordova Ave., and talked to his mother. "What are you going to call the baby?" Mrs. P. asked. "I don't know what we will call him but he is sure named H.W.P. the third." Mrs. Pettengill who called the news on Friday, says her husband's family of English ancestry, dates 17 generations born in the United States... The baby's mother is the former Ellen Bennett, daughter of the James A. Bennetts Sr., of 2601 De Soto Blvd. Young H.W.P. III, joins two year old sister Anne. * * * BEVERLY AYLOR, bride-elect of James M. Brewbaker Jr., is in a whirl of pre-nuptial parties. Friday, Mrs. Lloyd Rees, 1418 Cecelia Ave., gave a "Sea of Matrimony" party honoring Beverly, and the setting was the Rees' swimming pool patio. Among those helping to unload the ship's gifts and good wishes were Jan Nesseler, cousin of the bride-elect, and her mother,, Mrs. Richard Nesseler of Arlington, Va. Beverly, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Aylor Jr., of 634 Altara Ave., was also honored at a trousseau shower by Miss Beverly Forman and Miss Mona Tel Fondren, both to be attendants at the wedding. A patio party, it was held at the home of the Richard Formans' in Coconut Grove. Also on the party list is a kitchen shower planned by Miss Marilyn Jensen, bridesmaid-elect, daughter of Mrs. Roy Jensen, 831 Capri St. at the Jensen home. A dinner party at the home of Mrs. George Swanson 900 Coral Way, will honor both Beverly, and her fiance, on Aug. 24th. Hostesses will also include Miss Susan Esslinger and Miss Patricia Swanson, and their mothers. The wedding will take place Saturday, the 26th at the University Baptist Church.
JOHN T. WEBB is congratulated by his commanding officer on receiving an ensign's commission in the U.S. Naval Reserve at Pensacola. He entered the service in February. His mother, Mrs. John H. Webb, 813 Obispo Ave., is with him.
Pat Rethorst Engaged To Mr. Warner
MISS RETHORST Pat Rethorst Engaged To Mr. Warner Mr. and Mrs. William Rethorst, 1516 Garcia Ave., announce the engagement of their daughter, Patricia Alice, to Harold Clay Warner Jr., son of Col. and Mrs. Harold Clay Warner of Knoxville, Tenn. The wedding will take place Sept. 1 at St. James Lutheran Church in Coral Gables. The bride-elect, a senior student in the School of Home Economics at the University of Tennessee, is recording secretary of her sorority, Chi Omega. She was named the most outstanding freshman, served as cheerleader of her sophomore class and was recently tapped for Mortar Board. She holds membership in Alpha Lambda Delta, freshman honorary and serves on the Panhellenic Council. Her fiance graduated in June from the University of Tennessee with a BS degree in economics.
The '20's Roar Again At Riviera Club Party
Talk about the younger set, they really put on a "roaring-20s" dance Friday night at the Riviera Country Club that resembled a junior edition of the TV show by the same name. "Customers" were the junior members and their dates of the three country clubs, Riviera, Kings Bay and Coral Gables Country Club. Doc Pepper and his band of eight pieces played. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Duuker, and Mr. and Mrs. John H. Lipscomb were chaperones. Dancers were -- Chris Dunker, Marshall Wiseheart, R. F. Seifert, Robert Wilson, Lee Hamilton, Honey Shelley, Don Miller, Fred Baljet, Susan Elcook. Peter Andrus, Linda Piaget, Daird Pettigrew, Pat Kellogg, Linda Stadler, G.
