Venetian Club Names New Officers
STERN KOONS Mrs. Marion McCaskill is the new president of the Venetian Aquatic Club. The club is composed of Gables and Southwest women who donate their time to teach swimming. She succeeds Mrs. Donna Perry. Other officers chosen are Mrs. Esther Wiseman, vice president, 6351 SW 17th St.; Mrs. Gail Koons, secretary, 9700 SW 115th Ter.; and Mrs. Dottie Stern, treasurer, 7880 SW 17th Ter.

Gold Charm tournament for the Women's Golf Association, Coral Gables Country Club, was held Tuesday. Mrs. Eugene Kaspar was winner with a net 37 1/2 for the nine holes, low net tournament. Mrs. Harry Jasper and Mrs. Tony McCracken were tied for second each with a 38.

90 Turn Out Coffee Break Said Success First Time
(Picture On Page 8) More than 90 persons — one of the largest turnouts — attended the first morning coffee meeting of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Thursday of last week at the Coral Way Cafeteria. They heard TV newsman Ralph Renick tell about a recent State Department briefing held for a group of selected U.S. newsmen on the plan to boost Americanism and discourage communism. Among those attending the first coffee — they are to be held the second Thursday of each month—were Metro Commission Chairman Robert Haverfield and Commissioner Winston W. Wynne. "Those present represented a good cross section of membership," Chamber manager Lee Smith said. The meeting was arranged and emceed by Warner Daniels, chairman of the committee.
Ring Theater Will Offer International Show Bill
The 1961-62 Ring Theatre season of The Drama Department of the University of Miami is labeled "International." It includes; "Rashomon," a Japanese play; "The Cherry Orchard," Russian; "The Madwoman of Chaillot," French; "Volpone," English; and "A Streetcar Named Desire," American. In observance of The International Theatre Celebration promoted by ANTA (The American National Theatre and Academy) the season will attempt to promote understanding of other cultures. The plays will offer to Miami audiences the opportunity to see five devergent cultures dramatized. "Rashomon," the season opener, will be produced for one week beginning Oct. 29 a running through Nov. 4. For the first time, the Drama Department has instituted a graduate student directing program and three plays directed by graduate students will be offered in the Ring Theatre this eason. "A View from the Bridge" by Arthur Miller will be the first of the three. Mrs. Robin Werner will direct.
Profitable Golf
The recently adopted policy of no reserved times at Biltmore Golf Course is proving both popular and profitable. More players are using the facilities and enjoying it more, the City Commission reported last week. Starting times at the course has been the subject of a long controversy involving users of the golf course and the city.
