Put Down Powder Puff, Use Truncheon to Fight Reds, He Says

America must take the offensive against communism or it will not write the last chapter of history. This was the crux of the warning delivered to the Republican Women's Club Thursday morning by Harry LaFontaine. LaFontaine, a militant anti-Communist since he fought as a volunteer in the Russo-Finnish war of 1939-40, challenged the group and all Americans to take up the sword and fight communism with its own weapons and techniques. WINNER TAKES ALL "The winner will write the history," the movie producer told the group. He showed them a film of the three and one-half month long war waged by the Finns against the Soviet Union until they ran out of ammunition. The films depicted the first bombing of an open city by the Russian Reds in which 11,000 civilians were reported killed and the fight the Finns waged before forced to surrender. Ironically, LaFontaine pointed out, the Soviets were later able to get the Finns condemned as aggressors and made to pay the Soviet Union $560 million damages following World War II. This was after Finland fought with the Axis powers to regain territory lost during the earlier war. OUTLINES DETAILS LaFontaine, who fought as a brigade captain along with a group of volunteer Danes in the earlier war, told of the deceit, tricks, subversion, and propaganda used by the Reds to gain world control. "We've got to fight them the same way," LaFontaine said. "The Voice of America broadcasts are useless unless backed by a goal of liberation of the satellite countries. "Abandon baseball and Marquis of Queensberry rules in fighting communism," LaFontaine told the group. "When are you going to fight?" he asked. START AT HOME - First the U.S. must root out the Communists within its borders influencing its policies and decisions and then it will be able to deal with the Reds effectively. The Reds and pro-Reds he says are in the U.S. State Department cannot be routed out for their beliefs, but they can be dismissed for stupidity in working against the interest of their own country, LaFontaine said. LaFontaine said that he was not a member of the John Birch Society, but that he "wished them well." Active in international anti-Communist movements, LaFontaine said it was well known that Fidel Castro was a Communist agent, trained at a special school in Leningrad. SAYS WE IGNORED The American government ignored all warnings about Castro's background and aided him he said. He attacked the policy of non-intervention and said the U.S. should follow the Soviet example and intervene in world affairs whenever its or the free world's interest are at stake. "We must give the people hope," LaFontaine said. The political refugee said he had been silent long enough but he felt compelled to speak out now that he was an American citizen. GANGSTER PROBLEM "We are dealing with gangsters... Blast them out wherever they are," he said. "If you are not against the Communist, you are with them," said the former Dane. The women agreed to write to their congressman to demand a full hearing for General Edwin Walker, recently relieved of his command for his anti-Communist political activity.
