Mrs. Lorin Coppock Jr. To Be in Who's Who List
Mrs. Lorin E. Coppock Jr., 536 Jeronimo Ave., has been chosen for a listing in the third publication of Who's Who of American Women. Mrs. Coppock is a fourth-generation Miamian, a direct descendent of Jacob Eby, ordained bishop of the Mennonite Church in Zurich, Switzerland. Because of religious persecutions by the state, the Mennonites moved to Germany, where religious persecutions turned out to be as severe. Her ancestors left for Pennsylvania in the spring of 1715 when William Penn offered free homes to persons of all religious denominations. Descendants went from there to Westminster, Md., and then on to Ohio when tracts of land were opened. Mrs. Coppock and her sisters still own the property deeded to the family in 1812 and signed by Thomas Jefferson. Mr. and Mrs. Coppock are owners and founders of the Riviera Day School, the oldest private elementary school in Coral Gables. They are the parents of a daughter, Alice, now Mrs. Charles Warden, of Bradenton, and Lorin III, associated with his parents in operating the school. The Wardens have three children and the young Coppocks' four. Mrs. Coppock is active in church, school and civic activities. She has served as secretary of the Coral Gables Woman's Club, active in the United Fund and polio drives; is a member of the Women's Fellowship Board of the Congregational Church, member of the board of directors of the Pan-Hellenic building at the University of Miami, province director of Delta Zeta sorority, and member of the Quota International. She also is a member of the Coral Gables Country Club, Coral Reef Yacht Club and the University Yacht Club. Mrs. Coppock's greatest pride, she says, has always been in this city she has called home for 22 years. MRS. COPPOCK JR.
