38 Gables Jaycees, Wives Take Donations, Goodwill On Annual Trip to Haiti
38 Gables Jaycees returned recently from a four-day trip to the Republic of Haiti. The trip was in conjunction with their annual international visitation. A group of 88 Jaycees and their wives left Sept. 1 from Miami International Airport for the Caribbean island. With them went 4,576 pounds of donations from Dade County. In Haiti, Mayor Robert Searle was named an honorary citizen of Port-Au-Prince by the mayor of that capital, Jean Deeb. City Commissioner George Wilson presented a letter and a key to the city of Coral Gables to Mayor Deeb. Those who made the trip are Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Guilford Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hedlund, George Hutton, Terry Tumlin, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Monnin Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scheinberg, Mr. and Mrs. Lin May, Mr. and Mrs. Edison Archer, Dr. and Mrs. Kent William, Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson, Dr. and Mrs. William Dolan. Dr. and Mrs. Charles Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Spies, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Barkas, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wade, Judge and Mrs. Robert Zahner. Blacker, W. L. Cameron. Ron Jabara, Kenneth Ryskamp, Bob Bannister, Gene Short, Dr. Donald Smith, Mr. Richard Rennick, Dr. Donald Dolan, Dr. and Mrs. Lance Glasson and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Granger. Hedlund and Hutton were co-chairmen of this annual project and have been working on this for nearly a year. One phase of the over all project which the Jaycees worked months on was the collection of medicines, dental supplies, used clothing, artificial limbs, school supplies, toys, playground equipment and many other items which were collected for the St. Vincent's School for Handicapped Children.
LEAVING
— Rick Gillen, for two years executive director of the Retail Merchants Division of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, has resigned. On Oct. 2, he will join The Miami Herald as an assistant to the business manager. No successor at the RMD has been chosen.
OUR TRAFFIC SETUP
Sven Kansman, Metro traffic engineer, will explain the Coral Gables traffic setup to the Traffic and Parking Committee of the Chamber of Commerce Sept. 26. The meeting, scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Chamber, will be conducted by Chairman Robert McTague.
