Town Fathers to Wait Still Longer on Parking

The City Commission has decided to sit tight on operation of its attendant parking lot on Andalusia Avenue despite pressure by some merchants to lower rates. Commissioners indicated they will wait until the Old Youth Center lot is vacated and Le Jeune Road is completed before they reconsider changing the present rate from 10 cents for the first hour, 10 cents for the second hour and five cents for each additional hour. Some merchants have asked that the rate be reduced to a straight five cents an hour.

Deerborne Has Perfect Grid Season

STEVE PEARSON Deerborne Junior High School, led by quarterback Steve Pearson, finished an unbroken, untied touch football season recently. The school amassed a 10-game winning streak in defeating all its opponents in the Southeastern Association of Independent Schools. Deerborne proved the surprise team of the association because most of last year's team had been lost through graduation. But the team, coached by Dr. James Meffen, improvised offenses designed to outwit the opposition and they came through undefeated. Pearson, son of Mrs. Anita Pearson, 3540 SW 89th Ave., set school records in leading the Corsairs at quarterback. He scored 16 touchdowns by runs, passed for 9 more and helped score 27 extra points. The team captain was named player of the year and will receive his award at the Christmas Square Dance Dec. 20. Graduating team members are Pearson, Michael Cohen, Terry Jaramillo, Stanley Gans, Tom Cowell, Robert Kellett, Karl LeBoyer.
