Deaths in the Gables

Mrs. McConnell's Sister, Miss King

Services for Miss Bertha King, 69, of 737 Tibidado Ave., were held in Indianapolis, Ind., Wednesday. She died Sunday. A school teacher for 40 years, Miss King was principal of Webster Public School in Seattle, Wash., when she retired. She came here 15 months ago from Seattle and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Miami and the Hospitality Committee of Fairchild Tropical Gardens. A graduate of Blakers Teachers College, Indianapolis, she did graduate work at Butler University and also attended the University of Washington and Columbia University. She is survived by two sisters, Miss Helen B. King, of Indianapolis and Mrs. Margaret McConnell of Coral Gables; two nieces, Mrs. S. E. Trevett of Miami and Mrs. G. B. Cobb of Cobb, Ind.

William George, Lived on Ponce

Funeral services for William S. George, 31, of 413 Ponce de Leon Blvd., were held Monday night at Philbrick's Coral Gables Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at a later date. Mr. George, who died Friday, came here five years ago from Ft. Lewis, Wash. He attended the University of Maryland and University of Washington and was a member of the Wesley Methodist Church. Surviving are his parents, Dr. and Mrs. William S. George; a sister, Mrs. J. J. Martin, of Richmond, Va.; and a brother, Lt. Benjamin T. George, stationed with the Air Force at Colorado Springs, Col.

Mrs. Foster, Doctor's Wife

Services for Mrs. Elizabeth M. Foster, 74, of 1541 Disolta Ave., were held Friday at Tracy Funeral Home. She died Dec. 11. She came here 11 years ago from Lansing, Mich. Surviving is her husband, Dr. Leon Foster.

F. W. Woolrich Dies; Was 83

Services for Frederick W. Woolrich, 83, a retired wholesale electrical appliance dealer who died Dec. 12, were held Thursday at Combs' Coral Gables Chapel. He came here 11 years ago from Sommerville, N.J., and was an active Mason, member of the Miami Acacia Club and Miami Bridge Club. Survivors are his wife, Agatha and a sister, Mrs. T. A. Flockhart, of Sommerville.

Mrs. Allis, 92; From Milwaukee

Mrs. Allis, 92, of 230 Salamanca Ave., who came to Coral Gables 20 years ago from Milwaukee, died Saturday. She was a member of the Miami Womans' Club and White Temple Methodist Church. Surviving is Mrs. B. S. Hinckley, of Hartsdale, N.Y.

Calif. Rites For Mrs. Wood

Mrs. Janet Wood, 72, of 1201 Alfonso Ave., who died Dec. 13, was buried in Wilmington, Calif., following services there. She came to Coral Gables a year ago from Union City, Pa. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. David Dibbell, of Coral Gables; and two brothers, William L. Gilmore, of Miami, and Dell Gilmore, of Beaumont, Tex.

First Methodist Grows to 3,775

Seven new members have joined the First Methodist Church of Coral Gables making its total membership 3,775. The new members are Frank Cotton, 1457 LeJuene Rd.; Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Montanaro, 7880 SW 55th Ave.; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Murphy, 1829 SW 17th St.; Miss Kathleen Murphy, 1829 SW 17th St.; and Mrs. Roger L. Congdon, 7440 SW 54th Ave.

ALL FILLED

Plenty of extra chairs were provided for the annual presentation of "The Messiah" at the First Methodist Church Sunday afternoon and all were filled. No one was turned away, as happened last year, for lack of seating.

Graham Riggs Will Continue Tradition

Graham Farris Riggs, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Riggs Jr. of 7320 SW 79 St., will be ordained into the Christian ministry at the First Christian Church in Coral Gables at 5 p.m. Sunday. He will graduate next May from Phillips University, one of the Christian Church Colleges, in Enid, Okla., and is planning to start his seminary work at the Phillips University Seminary also. He graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1958 where he received his letters in football and track. He was a member of the Letterman's Club, National Athletic Scholarship Society, Junior Exchange Club, and the Junior Civitan Club. At Phillips he has been active in extracurricular work including the Student Senate all four years. Graham's family background is one of church workers. His father has served as both deacon and elder and is now serving as an elder and as the first vice president of the Coral Gables First Christian Church Corp., as well as teaching the high school group in Sunday School. His mother has served as a deaconess and as president of the Christian Women's Fellowship and both parents have sponsored the Christian Youth Fellowship for six years. His maternal grandfather, J. Randall Farris of Winter Park, has been a minister in the Christian Church for over 60 years. This will be the first Ordination Service to be held in the Coral Gables First Christian Church. A reception will be given by the Christian Women's Fellowship following the Service. G. F. RIGGS
