AT THE EMERSONS' HOME And Mozart Came to Play Among the Dolls

By HELEN REYNOLDS Times Society Editor The dolls have it at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett S. Emerson, 3611 Alhambra Cir. There are dolls to the left of u, dolls to the right and a whole room in the back of the house filled with dolls - some 300 in all. When you meet attractive, petite Barbara Emerson with her blue eyes and red hair, you say to yourself, "She's a modern doll." She was wearing orange, tapered slacks, tucked in a blouse and bare feet in sandals. At the moment, the Emerson home, one of the original Spanish type, is undergoing extensive repairs. When the new wing now in its final stages is free of workmen, the Emersons will have a Florida room and swimming pool equal in size to most one-story homes. A member of the Miami Doll Club, Barb attended the club convention held at the Deauville in the summer. She can rattle off the history of each doll she owns. For instance she took from a glass cabinet, fully-dressed doll with waist-long, curling, blonde hair. The doll wore the styles of the 1800's - blue satin with Basque waist, drape-over skirt in front. It was a French doll. A doll's head is most important to doll collectors; everyone knows the body is stuffed with sawdust. But the head, it can be made of rawhide, hard rubber, or ceramics. The true-to-life painted face tells the story. However, husband Everett, a contractor, takes almost as much interest in his wife's collection as she. He has several trinket dolls, the kind usually given as favors at parties. In the living room on the library table is a highly-polished music box made of several kinds of wood. As Barb pressed a button, the music began and the double doors in front parted, there sat Mozart, dressed in the fashion of his time playing the grand piano. By the fireplace, stood two 16-inch sturdy boy and girl dolls, dressed almost modern, with knee-length shorts on the boy and kilts on the girl. Barb said they were Italian or French, about the 1800's. Barb has 100 foreign make in her collection of 300. The Emersons have a lively family of two boys and two girls. Wendy-Ann is in college. Gregg is a Riviera Day School student, Lavinia, is at Coral Gables High and Bill is at the moment dividing his time between Alaska and Cape Canaveral. SOME OF HER COLLECTION OF 300 DOLLS MRS.
