On Undug Canal Case Mrs. Gibby Will Try For Different Plan

(Editorial on Page 4) Mrs. Mabel K. Gibby has given up her fight to build an addition five feet from the undug canal back of her home at 808 arma Ave. Mrs. Gibby, who tried in vain to obtain a variance to build since June, was granted permission by the City Commission Tuesday to go back before the Zoning Board with ith new, addition plans calling fr a 27-foot setback. Meanwhile, City Attorney Ted Semple told the Commission that he is not yet ready to file a suit in Circuit Court to clear up the question of ownership of the undug canal. The City claims ownership. No one has come forth to make a counter claim. Back on Sept. 26 the Commission voted to sell the undug canal land after an overwhelming majority of abutting property owners indicated that they wanted the land and not a canal.

We Won't Take Sides

City Commissioners last week decided to keep hands off a dispute between the Greyhound Corporation and Wyllys Sportsman Inc. over new sightseeing tours to Key West. Greyhound had asked the Commission for support in its opposition to Wyllys' sightseeing trips, but the Commission decided to let the Florida Railroad and Public Utilities Commission decide the issue without its help. The Wyllys tours would originate in Miami Beach and come into the Gables. Some of Greyhound's tours also come through the Gables.
