It's Cards, Chess And Elmer For 'Daddy'

The wife of Coral Gables City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. nodded to a black rocking chair by a window. "That's Daddy's. "Jimmy likes to sit there and rock and listen to his stero. He's quite deep in stereo." Mrs. Robinson was in her living room. There's a bright green rug (she dyed it from grey) a long yellow sofa, and handcarved furniture that lends a subtle brown to the color scheme. "Ann and I play cards," Mrs. Robinson, said, telling how she and her junior high school daughter spend time together. "And Daddy plays with us in a game called Pollyanna. "And he and Ann play chess. I have to laugh sometimes. He goes by the book and she plays off-kilter. "And when she wins, he can't understand it. "And Jimmey's, a stamp collector and sometimes he and Ann will work on it together. It was a collection his mother had had and she inherited it from her father." Mrs. Robinson walked into her daughter's bedroom. On a prominent spot on her knick-knack shelf were several trophies her dad won for pistol marksmanship. "That's Elmer," she said, pointing to a cage. She bent over. "Where's Elmer? Elmer's a hamster. Isn't he cute." Mrs. Robinson looked up and laughed. "It's come to the point where I check him to see if he's living. "The life span of a hamster is one-and-a-half years. Elmer is three-and-a-half and he won't leave us." Mrs. Robinson stepped back into the living room, some of whose finest features are several handcarved cabinet-tables and vases, given Mr. Robinson by his mother. She stepped into her bedroom. In one corner was a portable TV and opposite it were two easy chairs. Between the chairs was a table with a box of sesame crackers. Mrs. Robinson returned to her living room and sat down in a comfortable-looking easy chair. "We've got to have a good week-end. We've got lots of yard work to do." Commissioner Franklin Evans was pronounced physically fit Tuesday as he did six push ups as the City Commission recessed temporarily while in a holiday mood. Dr. Evans, always quick to accept a verbal challenge, was just as quick to accept a physical challenge from Commissioner Joe Murphy, who bet 50 cents that he couldn't do five honest-to-goodness push ups. Commissioner Jerry Dressel had earlier declined to take up Murphy's challenge.
