Publication of Harold P. Machlan's book entitled "Black Veils over Paris" is due April 16, according to publisher Carlton Press Inc., of New York. Mr. and Mrs. Machlan, who reside at 1008 East Ponce de Leon Blvd., resided in Paris for the two past winters. It's Machlan's first published novel. Now retired, Dr. Machlan spent 40 years of medical service in the field of internal medicine and cardiology. ★ ★ ★ She isn't dead yet. But the University of Miami's drama department thought up the idea of bringing a large truckload of sand from the beach to the Ring Theatre for its presentation of Edward Albee's drama—concerning a number of people waiting on a beach to bury their not-yet-dead grandmother. "The Sandbox" is scheduled April 11 through 14, along with two other modern experimental dramas, "Death-Watch" and Jean Genet's story about four men in prison waiting to die. ★ ★ ★ The Coral Gables Civic Club members will hold election of officers April 12 at the Coral Gables Woman's Club. Mrs. Joseph G. Franzen, 1252 Aguila Ave., is president.

PFC LOSA Marine Pfc. Otto J. Losa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Losa, 910 Roderigo Ave., has completed four weeks of advanced combat training at Camp LeJeune, N.C. ★ ★ ★ At the Saturday luncheon meeting of the Miracle Mile Toastmasters, the following officers for 1962 were elected: Fred Matthews, president; Joseph Eisenhart, first and Al Farkas, second vice-presidents; Charles Denkert, secretary; Jack Dick, treasurer and Earl Cook, Sergeant-at-Arms. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. William Shaw, 2401 Alhambra Cir., will open her home for a buffet supper, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday sponsored by the International Affairs department of the Coral Gables Woman's Club. The public is invited to the affair, proceeds of which are to help entertain guests from Cartegena, Coral Gables' sister city in the People to People program. Mrs. LeRoy Klitch, 501 Zamora Ave., and Mrs. I. Q. Rayburn, 835 Andres Ave., are chairmen. ★ ★ ★ Susan Taylor, daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Taylor Walters, has been elected president of the Athletic Association at Elmira. Responsibilities come easy for Susan. In her freshman year she was treasurer of A.A. and in her sophomore year she edited photography for the Octagon, student newspaper, and served as president of Perry Residence Hall. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. Asher McCowan, 3916 Granada Blvd., wil be the hostess Friday for a tea sponsored by the Women of the Granada Presbyterian Church, when they welcome 40 new members of the church. Mrs. Maurice Hart Sr., 333270 Riviera Dr., and a junior at Elmira College, Elmira N.Y., Cedima Ave., is chairman. Assisting with pouring and receiving will be past presidents: Mrs. Fred Meadows, 5663 Michelangelo St.; Mrs. George A. Coup, 929 Tendilla Ave.; Mrs. Harold A. Schuler Sr., 2501 SW 80th Ave. Mrs. Selden Stewart, 424 Almeria Ave.; Mrs. L. Allen Morris, 4140 Finta Ct. The hours are from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Mrs. Paul Gainer Elected Welcome Wagon President

New officers for the Coral Gables Welcome Wagon Club (they elect every six months) are Mrs. Paul Gainer, 3600 Durango St., president. Mrs. W. G. French, 1201 San Ignacio Ave., is vice president; Mrs. Kenneth Ropp, 1318 So. Greenway Dr., second vice president; Mrs. Don Labbee, 118 Antiquerra Ave., secretary. Mrs. George Levine, 1128 Hardee Rd., corresponding secretary; Mrs. Roy Manzer, 840 So. Alhambra Cir., treasurer. Mrs. Nulah Weidmeyer, 118 Antiquerra Ave., historian. The above ladies and their husbands came to South Florida to reside from Canada, New Orleans, Massachusetts, New York, Indiana, West Virginia, and Texas.

Mrs. Hanna Tops Play At Granada

Low net played in classes was the tournament Friday at the Woman's Golf Association, Coral Gables Country Club. In Class A, Mrs. Robert Hanna came in first with 341⁄2. Mrs. Albert Anderson was second with 37. There was a tie with Mrs. J. B. MacMurray and Mrs. Belle Mathers each scoring 311⁄2 for third. In Class B, Mrs. Joseph Thompson won first with 321⁄2. Mrs. Dave Bosworth was second with 36 and Mrs. Don Stevenson was third with 361⁄2. In Class C, Mrs. David Farrack was first with 33, Mrs. Stanley Lang, second with 34; and Mrs. Estelle Van Arman third, with 35.
