UM's North Campus Property Offered City
University of Miami has offered to dispose of all its holdings at North Campus, the City Commission revealed Tuesday. UM officials will sell or trade all its property including the old "Cardboard College" building, San Sebastian residence hall, and several other sites in the area to the city on easy payment or trade terms. Part of the proposal was revealed by Mayor Robert L. Searle Tuesday during discussion of possible library sites. Searle said the present North Campus classroom building site could serve as the new home for the Coral Gables Elementary School which City officials have been eager to move from Ponce de Leon Boulevard for years. The triangular lot on Segovia Boulevard, University Drive and Riviera Drive, has been suggested a possible library site. The University also owns several lots that would have become part of the Anastasia Avenue-Le Jeune Road proposed library site. Coral Gables owns land near the Main Campus that the University is interested in.
CG Offers Hand In Bus Barn Fuss
An offer by Coral Gables to house Metro buses at its equipment yard may be good news for irate South Miami residents who have been fighting to close the Metro Transit Authority operation on Manor Lane. Gables City commissioners Monday instructed City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. to offer the facilities to the beleaguered MTA. Space for approximately 13 buses will be made available in the rear of the Gables own bus and equipment yard along LeJeune Road just east of Coral Gables High School. Whether the Gables' offer will get the MTA buses out of South Miami will depend on MTA's acceptance of the site and the financial arrangement. MTA reportedly pays $450 a month rental for its South Miami facility on Manor Lane. Negotiations were worked out between Metro Commissioner Robert Brake and Gables Commissioner Joe Murphy.
