City Publishes a Paper With Report to Citizens

(Editorial on page 4) The City of Coral Gables came out with its own "newspaper" last week. Virtually every resident of the City will receive one of the special reports in the mail by the end of this week. Why a special report to its citizens? Said the commission: "The purpose of the report is to acquaint our citizens with some of the more important actions of the City Commission during the past year and the reasons behind them. "Although the proceedings of city government are regularly reported by the press, an annual summing up can supply background which is apt to be missing from day-to-day accounts." The paper, which cost $800 to prepare and print, features reports of the budget, tax expenditures, street and side-walk paving programs, planning reports, library site, Coral Gables Open, sanitary sewers and a brief history. Commissioners said Tuesday they are eager to get reaction from the public on the report.
