Sunrise Parking Plan Delayed Again

The City Commission Tuesday balked at giving Sunrise Harbour developer Emil Gould final okay on his request that he be permitted to have parking either underground or the first floor of apartment buildings on lots 2-5, block 2 on Edgewater Drive. Although the proposal had passed 3-2 on first reading, Commissioner George Wilson changed his vote to an abstention Tuesday resulting in a 2-2 deadlock. None of the Commissioners said they were opposed, but Commissioners Franklin Evans and Joe Murphy, who voted against it each time, said the matter should go before the Planning Board first. Gould pressed for a "yes" or "no" answer Tuesday, indicating that he preferred "no" answer than have to go back the long 15-month fight he said waged to develop his property. But the Commission decided instead to rescind their deadlocked vote, left open the question of the second reading and threw the question at the Planning Board. Although no one from the Sunrise Harbour Association appeared to oppose the plan at Tuesday's meeting, Kenneth Treister, vice president, had written Oct. 29 to remind the Commission of a pledge to turn over development proposals to the Planning Board.
