WHEN YOU HAVE a special coat with prizes in a half-dozen pockets and it's carnival time, you can expect an overabundance of grasping hands. Mrs. D. W. Matson Jr. will wear this coat when Coral Gables Elementary School holds its carnival Nov. 7. All you do is pay a dime and reach into a pocket; what you find is yours.
Youth Center Has Plans For Many Activity Units
A new golf class for women will begin Nov. 12 from 9 to 10 A.M., every Monday and Thursday, at Granada Golf Course. Elmer Gerth, golf pro, will instruct the class. Women interested in this class contact the Youth Center. Fees are $10 for three weeks, and equipment will be furnished for those who do not have their own clubs. * * * An intermediate class in Bridge begins Nov. 7, on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mrs. Olga Poe is the instructor and fees are $9 for 8 weeks. * * * One of the main activities at the Youth Center is the fencing class held on Tuesdays from 8 to 10 p.m. Both lessons and practice are offered here. Also there are six fencing tournaments coming up during the next few months. * * * We would like to say "thanks," to all the children who brought old toys to the Youth Center to be repaired and given to needy children or to hospitals. We are still looking for more toys, so if you have one you don't want please bring it to Coach Ron, at the Youth Center. This is a Christmas project, and will continue from now until Christmas.

Canal Suit Is Held Up; Owner Gone
The suit to force J. J. Lamb to open up his dam on the Coral Gables Canal is held up by Lamb's absence. Lamb is out of town and couldn't be located to serve court papers, County Attorney Darrey Davis said Monday. Meanwhile County Commissioner Robert Blake said the County would need volunteers to testify for the County in the suit to force the opening. The court may just go ahead and hear the County's complaints if Lamb, a Coral Gables resident, fails to show up, Davis said. Meanwhile efforts are continuing to try to locate him. Lamb owns a portion of the canal west of SW 67th Avenue and the Tamiami Canal. He has resisted County efforts to get him to unblock an earth dam near the intersection of the canal and the railroad tracks. Lamb has offered to sell the canal to the County for its tax appraised value, but the County has refused to buy it.
