Gables Open Is Signing Patrons

The annual drive to finance the Coral Gables Open golf tournament is off to a flying start, according to Pat Cesarano, chairman of the event for 1962. More than a hundred patrons have already signed up at $150 each for the privilege of playing with the touring professionals in the Pro-Am which is scheduled for the day before the Open. Only fifty additional patrons can be accepted, Cesarano said, because of the limitation in the number of threesomes which the course will accommodate in the one-day Pro-Am. These patron contributions underwrite the prize money of $20,000 for the Open and $3,000 for the Pro-Am. Other expenses, if in excess of the gate, are absorbed by the City of Coral Gables. The fourth annual Coral Gables Open, co-sponsored by the PGA, will be played on the Biltmore Course. A field of approximately 150 professionals and ten amateurs will compete in 72 holes of medal play on December 6, 7, 8 and 9.
