Dad & Boys at Sea; Mom's Happily Home

By MARY CAFFEE Correspondent "I decided to build as big a boat as the garage could hold," explained William Klein as he eyed the beautiful 21-foot cruiser at his home - parked in the driveway. He had no experience in boat building, only a love for the sea. But he got himself a set of blueprints from California. Then, working on his free time on weekends and in the evening in about 21⁄2 years did the job. You can see the results at 610 Fluvia St. The hull is made of mahogany and plywood covered with fiberglass. It has a small cabin which sleeps two and contains a ship-to-shore radio, a radio direction finder and an ice box. Aside from the hull, Klein tell, much of the hardware, all of the woodwork, and several of the window panes and casements. Klein, plant manager for built the entire steering sys-Lehigh Portland Cement Co., also built most of the furniture in his home including a living room and dining room ensemble and bedroom and children's furniture. The Kleins have two teen-aged boys Bill Jr., 18, and Jimmy, 14. Bill is a student at the University of Florida and was the founder of the "Avengers," a popular dance combo which plays primarily for parties at the University of Miami. Jimmy attends Christopher Columbus High School and was a carrier for The Coral Gables Times. Klein and the boys have taken their boat on many fishing expeditions to Key Largo and Eliot's Key searching for dolphin. Mrs. Klein stays close to home, however. "I don't like the water, but I don't worry when they take the boat out overnight because they call me on the ship-to-shore," said petite Betty Klein. Klein is also a Boy Scout committeeman of Troop 16 at St. Theresa School. JIM KLEIN SITS ON DAD'S BOAT
