No Flats Among Sharps On Rotary Musical Day

Gables Rotarians had a musical Friday of last week when Conductor (and Rotarian) Fabien Sevitzsky told them about what a big business music is and then threw in some concert tantilizers to prove that music is enjoyment, as well. With humor, he thanked the ladies, who were guests at the Gables Country Club for the annual Ladies Day program of the civic club, "for driving your husbands to the concert just once and then they're our audience forever." The ladies laughed and the men smiled. Among the ladies listening was Mrs. Leonard Bernstein, wife of the conductor of the New York Philharmonic and a professional performer herself under the name Felicia Montealegre. She did not take part in Friday's program. Rotarians heard a double violin concerto, trumpet solos and some harp solos by Mary Spalding Sevitzky, wife of the conductor. As for figures, Dr. Sevitzsky strung them out until he had proved to his satisfaction that the business of music is great. er in dollars than that of all organized athletics whose annual involvement is estimated at $290 million.

Court to Meter Maids: You're Fired, Ladies

Circuit Court Judge Grady Crawford has thrown out of court a suit by two Coral Gables meter girls fired back in April 1961 who asked for their jobs and back pay. The suit, filed by Mrs. Shirley Searle and Miss Norweida Barrow through their attorney, William J. Pruitt, had been pending for several months. The two women were fired on charges they altered the time on overtime traffic tickets. They countered at the Trial Board hearing that they had to do this to keep up with what they alleged was a City quota system of ticket writing. City officials denied this during the September hearing. The City Commission in May of this year refused to grant an appeal to Miss Barrow and Mrs. Searle, thereby upholding the Trial Board. They then filed suit in Circuit Court, having exhausted all administrative remedies. DIABETICS 'DISCOVERED' Fifty suspected diabetic cases were discovered from the 1,000 diabetic testing kits which were picked up in South Miami during National Diabetic Week, Nov. 11-17.
