Fire Harms Cley Home

A gas heater set fire to a living room Tuesday morning, seriously damaging an old Gables landmark - the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cleys, 937 Coral Way. "A few more minutes and the whole house would have been involved," said Chief Paul Matheson after the fire. No estimate of damage could be given, but the entire living room and the dining room were gutted by fire and other parts of the home were damaged by smoke and water. Capt. Louis C. White and his men got to the scene only minutes after it was reported from a neighbor's home, but already the home was seriously involved. White burned three fingers and the palm of his left hand in fighting the fire. Lt. W. P. Howden (Billy Reagan the pro fighter) fell from an attic ladder, but was not seriously injured and Fireman Paul D. Boller suffered a small cut over the left eye.

HOWARD N. MILLER will serve as chairman of the Accountant's Division of the 1963 Combined Jewish Appeal. Miller, lives at 25 S. Prospect Dr. and is president of the Dade County chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. A. B. Wiener, 6420 Maynada, 1962 chairman, will serve as co-chairman.
