by helen reynolds society editor Mrs. B. Edward Wood, 4304 University Dr., ate two luncheons Thursday, that is at least she tried. She was hostess at 11 a.m. for the final "tasters" smorgasbord of the International Smorgasbord and Traveler Group of the Miami Woman's Club, and at 1 p.m. she attended the luncheon of the Southern Cross Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, at the Riviera Country Club. All that, including a party she and her husband gave the night before for their teenage son, and the one planned she said, for Friday night for their teenage daughter. At least 50 members and guests attended the smorgasbord and tasted such Swedish concoctions as tiny meat balls, tiny slices of all kinds of fish (mainstay in the Scandanavian countries), homemade Swedish rolls served with tiny fancy butter balls, and for desert a luscious two layer cake iced with a whipped cream crusty topping that melted in your mouth. Tuesday, April 4, the International Smogasbord and Travelers Club will present their masterpiece at the Miami Woman's Club for all members and their guests to see and eat. As for the travel talks, an amusing incident happened in Prussia to Mrs. John Norman before her marriage and where she met her husband-to-be. As a girl in her teens she visited relatives there and went horseback riding. Now, Mrs. Norman said, "No lady ever rode astride in Prussia, and I created quite a stir." Mrs. John Gifford told of her recent trip to Germany to visit her daughter and family. She said the streets and boulevards of Berlin are well kept, the buildings modern and beautiful. The German people do not stress church, but cultivate the arts, music, books and the opera. Hitler's name is never mentioned, and the young children in the schools will never find his name in the history text books.
