Student Visits Are Approved Fo Exchanges

Fifteen lucky University of Miami and University of Cartagena students will exchange one-week visits in July. Most of their expenses will be paid by the universities and the People to People Committee of Coral Gables. The board of directors agreed last Friday, after hearing Dr. Ralph Boggs, director of the University of Miami's International Center and Hispanic American Institute, to help back the exchange plan financially. The students, who more than likely will be local residents, will be accompanied by a UM professor and his wife. A break of two weeks will occur between the visit by the Cartageneros and the return visit. While here, the young college students will have the red carpet rolled out for them. They will tour the Miami area, visiting such places as the University of Miami campus, Villa Vizcaya, the Seaquarium and take a boat trip around the Bay. The students will also visit private homes, attend round table discussions and shop in Coral Gables.

Gables Surgeon Suggests Let's Exchange Our Medical Skills, Too

A proposal by Dr. Richard Strain, local neurosurgeon, to set up a doctor to doctor exchange program with other nations similar to the People to People exchange program will be considered by the Coral Gables People to People Committee Friday. A resolution will be presented backing Dr. Strain's plan to have foreign doctors work side by side with American doctors to learn the latest techniques of the medical profession. Federal Aid Dr. Strain told the board of directors, which met last Friday, that he has already attempted to contact members of the Federal Administration to gain support for his plan. He said he hopes to get an audience in the near future and get backing for the plan. Under Dr. Strain's plan, foreign doctors would work with and be paid by doctors while undergoing training. Their work would be closely supervised and they would not actually treat patients in most instances. Their diagnosis and prescribed treatment would be reviewed by doctors working on the same cases and an evaluation made of the foreign doctor's work. None In Colombia Colombia, South America, Dr. Strain pointed out, has not one neurosurgeon in the entire country. These cases have to be handled as best they can by doctors lacking this skill. Under the exchange plan, a number of Colombian doctors would study under an American neurosurgeon for a minimum of two years. Production volume of winter cabbage in Florida this year is 17 per cent greater than average.

Guest Speaker

Dr. Mabel Head, of Lakeland, teacher and leader in Chautauqua work, will be the speaker Friday when the Women's Fellowship of the Coral Gables Congregational Church meets at 1 p.m.
