Grand new flag

In keeping with the Bicentennial spirit, Coral Gables Masonic Lodge #260 Worshipful Master Quentin Ciceron (r) presents a special flag to Ponce de Leon Junior High School Principal Ralph Moore (l). The flag was actually flown over the Capitol on Jan. 7 of this year. In addition, a framed copy of the Masonic Declaration of Independence was given to the school.

Wife beating women's club topic

Florence Morganroth, of the Citizens Dispute Settlement Office and a former teacher of social science at the University of Miami and Miami-Dade Community College, will speak on "Wife Battering" at the Coral Gables Democratic Women's Club Saturday, May 1, at the home of Jean Connolly, 4501 SW 62nd Ave., at 12:30 p.m. The public is invited. Arts and crafts

Local artists and craftsmen are invited to participate in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Arts and Crafts Show at Cutler Ridge Shopping Center Saturday, May 1. Participants may sell their work. For information and application forms, call Elizabeth Ligon at 235-1010.

Derby Day

Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association is celebrating Kappa Derby Day Saturday, May 1, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Thomson, 11301 Old Cutler Rd., Coral Gables. Entrance fee is $2 and one hors d'oeuvre tray per person. Psoriasis lecture

Discussion of PUVA (Psoralen Ultraviolet Ray Appha, a photochemotheraphy procedure used in relieving psoriasis) will be included in "Current Treatment Advances For Psoriasis," the topic of a free lecture Thursday, April 29, at 8:15 p.m. at Dade Federal Savings and Loan auditorium, 10301 S. Dixie Hwy. Lecturer will be J. Richard Taylor, M.D. assistant professor of Dermatology, University of Miami School of Medicine. The public is invited. Blood tests

Westchester General Hospital, 2500 SW 75th Ave., will conduct free high blood pressure screenings Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2, for area residents. The tests will be administered in the hospital lobby from noon to 5 p.m. Sponsored in conjunction with Kiwanis International and the Heart Association, the program aims to detect signs of high blood pressure (hypertension) and to familiarize the public with the dangers of the disease.

Car wash

Parents of the Adult Retarded (PAR) is having a car wash and bake sale Saturday, May 1, at 9:30 a.m. at Ponce de Leon Junior High, 5801 Augusto St., Coral Gables, in the gym parking lot. The Adult Special Students is putting on the event, and proceeds will go toward transportation for trips for the retarded to Busch Gardens in Tampa and Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven. Cost is $1 for a car wash.

Book review

The Miami Tri-Psi's (mothers of Tri-Deltas), Upsilon Chapter, is having a Bicentennial Book Review, "Abtgail Adams," by Janet Whitney, reviewed by Evelyn Kinsloe, Thursday, April 29, from 1-4 p.m. The review will be held at the First Federal Building, 2750 Coral Way, in the Granada Room. There is $3 donation. Proceeds will go toward increasing support of the Tri-Delta Scholarship Fund. As there are accomodations for only 100 guests those interested are urged to call Maggie Jacobs at665-1043. Additional tickets can be obtained at the April meeting or at the door. Those who cannot attend are asked to send a donation to Mrs. James S. McDonald, 5318Sardinia, Coral Gables.

Classy ceramics

The Ceramic League of Miami, 8873 SW 129th St., is starting a new season of classes on subjects from sculpture to stained glass. They'll also teach different ceramic methods, including use of a potters wheel, glazes and hand building. Classes begin May 10 for students from beginners to advanced, including a new teenagers' Saturday class.
