Student fair slated

The annual student Social Studies Fair will be held Friday, April 30, at the Dade County Youth Fair Grounds, 10901 Coral Way. Theme for this year's fair is the Bicentennial, and there will be a variety of events to commemorate the nation's birthday. In line with this event there will be a parade of States from 9:30 to 10 a.m. with students dressed in state-colored costumes carrying their adapted state's flag. To generate a pioneer spirit, there will be a tug-a-war, grey wrestling, apple bobbing and nail hitting contest. On the more serious side will be the junior high history bee which tests students' knowledge of history. Senior high competition ranges from the Lincoln-Douglas debates to displays of mediae-made historical handicrafts. Hundreds of exhibits related to social, cultural, economic, political and international themes concerning the development of the United States will be judged with awards such as six community college scholarships of three along with ribbons and trophies.
