Israel South honors rabbi with dinner

Members of Temple Israel South, which meets at Sunset Congregational Church, 9025 Sunset Dr., will honor Rabbi and Mrs. Robert Orkund at a congregational dinner preceding Sabbath Eve services Friday, May 7. Family services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Rabbi Orkund, who will leave the end of June to assume his own pulpit in Rockford, Ill., will be replaced by Brett Goldstein as assistant rabbi.

Senator | The Brotherhood of Temple Or Olom, 8755 SW 16th., will be honored by state Senator Kenneth M. Myers at its annual Mother's Day breakfast Sunday, May 9, at 9:30 a.m. Sen. Myers' topic will be "The Bicentennial Experience of the Jew in America." The Brotherhood will prepare and serve breakfast to the families of the Brotherhood members to honor mothers. Birthday dinner | The Women of the Church, Riviera Presbyterian Church, 5275 Sunset Dr., will have a birthday dinner Wednesday May 12, at 6:30 p.m. The birthday objective will offer hope through caring ministries for Bangladesh, Appalachians and American Indians. For adult reservations, call the church by May 9. Installation Mass | Saint Richard Parish Women's Club will have its Installation Mass and luncheon Friday, May 14. Mass will be at the parish house, 7500 SW 152nd St. at 9:30 a.m., and lunch will be served at the Black Angus Restaurant in the Point Royale Shopping center in Cutler Ridge immediately afterwards. Incoming officers for the year are: president, Mrs. Kenneth Casey; first vice-president, Mrs. A. E. Arnason; second vice-president, Mrs. J. L. Hammer; recording secretary, Mrs. Charles Sacher; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Charles Klemtsen; treasurer, Mrs. Robert Howards. Epiphany women | Epiphany Women's Club will install new officers Friday, May 7, at a 10 a.m. mass in the church, 8235 SW 57th Ave. A social hour and luncheon will follow at the University Inn on South Dixie Highway. A special Mother's Day mass will be celebrated Sunday, May 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the church, followed by a Women's Club sponsored family breakfast in the parish hall. Beth Tov | Service begins at 8:15 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Temple Beth Tov, 6438 SW 8th St. Rabbi Charles Rubel will officiate. The Hebrew and Sunday School children, under the supervision of teacher Kenneth Cohen, will conduct the Sabbath service.

Gurland-Robert | Monica Robert and Barry T. Gurland were married Saturday April 24, in North Miami. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Eva Robert of South Miami. She is a former graduate of Center Senior High in Kansas City and studied at the University of Missouri. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gurland of North Miami Beach. He graduated from Villanova University and is presently a certified public accountant with Laventhol and Horwath in Coral Gables.
