Soccer all-stars formed only on a post-season basis

Second in a series By JOHN WALTERS Sports Writer "Our policy is that every kid must play," explained Ross Alger, vice president of the American Youth Soccer Organization (A.Y.S.C.). "We are a soccer organization and only a soccer organization and our first thought is for the benefit of each and every kid registered in the A.Y.S.O." Each and every player that plays in A.Y.S.O. must be insured, uniformed and assured that he or she will play at least half the game. When Alger was asked about the concept of forming all-star teams or select teams, he became very defensive about his organization and its beliefs on all-star teams. "We permit all-star teams to be formed on a post season basis, " explained Alger. "But these teams may only play within our association and may not travel to compete. "If a member of our organization uses our players to form a select or all-star team in order to travel and compete, he will then put himself and players in jeopardy as far as remaining members within A.Y.S.O. "When a player chooses to play on a select team, he will lose all insurance and liability privileges that he obtained while a member of A.Y.S.O.," Alger said. "The teams may not use our equipment such as balls, nets and fields. Each and every player must have his parents sign a paper stating that the American Youth Soccer Organization will not be responsible for this project. "Personally," explained Alger, "I don't see how anyone can put together an all-star team. Financially, its very difficult and they had better make sure they have a reliable and effective insurance liability policy."

Center names coaches

The Coral Gables Youth Center and athletic director Vern Tinsman have announced the plans and head coaches for the 1976 center football program. The 75 pound and the 85 pound group will be under the leadership of Tito Gomez and Aristedes Sastre. The 95 pound team will be under the direction of Dan Yeary who is the pastor of University Baptist Church. Yeary coached the 85 pound team last season. The 110 pound team will be headed by Mark Plyler who coached the same team last year as an assistant to Scott Ingold. The 120 pound team will be headed by Alberto Fuentes who was a coach on the same club last season. The 145 pound team is the only one that has no definite head coach at this time. A choice will be made very shortly. The Youth Center will begin its second year in the Pop Warner football league. This year two new organizations have been added. Richmond Perrine and Suniland Optimist will bring the local Pop Warner circuit to a total of 12 clubs.
