Disney World trip highlight of senior week

The traditional "Senior Week" will kick off on Grad Nite, May 15, with a trip to Disney World, filled with excitement and entertainment. Events especially for Seniors during the following week include: Takeover Day, Color Day, Crazy Day, Spirit of '76 Day, and Dress-up Day, which will be highlighted by the annual awards assembly. Friday is also the day of the much-awaited Senior Prom which will be held at the Miami Springs Villas. All in all, it should prove to be an exciting, activity-filled week. The Cobra baseball team was forced to give up the District 8AAAA title when they lost to South Dade, 7-3 Friday night April 30 at Mark Light Field. The SMSH team (15-9) played a tough game, but the "Big Blues" were ready for anything and captured the district crown. Four students from the Serpent's Tale staff, Lourdes Brezo, Debbie West, Eric Wickstrom, and Lisa York, will be featured weekly on channel 10's Next Generation, where they will discuss with students from other area high schools different controversial issues. The program airs Sunday mornings at 8:30. In the regional track competition, Carlos Tandron placed second in the shot put contest. David Wood came in fourth in the high jump. Both athletes will now venture to the State track meet which will be held at Winter Park. South Miami High Lisa Tucker

Wright shot an even par 72, John Pallot shot a 75, and Mark Bradford shot a 79 to help lead the team to its 312 point victory. The team will now advance to the state championships which will be held this Friday and Saturday in St. Petersburg. Nine Gables German students returned with honors from the Florida Association of Students of German convention, held in Jacksonville last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The students who received superior ratings were: Nick Clark; Pat Richard Berman, Conversation; Bill Arnhols, Debbie Maturo, Andy Labbie, and Dan Duerk, Reading; Vivien Toomey, Poetry; and Jon Lehman and Fritz Bronner Projects. She's tops at Howey

Andrea Pollizzi, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas G. Pollizzi of Coral Gables, was one of 55 Howey Academy students who earned an "A" average in all subjects at the end of the first marking period of the second semester.
