Killian High / Final drama of the year plays to large audiences

Bill Kaczaraba. Last week's, "Fiddler on the Roof," the third and final Killian play of the school year was a huge success. Premiering May 13, the production played before a large audience for each of its three nights. Earlier in the year, performers in the play received awards from the annual Florida Thespian Conference held in Winter Park. Those winning superior certificates were Warren McElroy and Tim Moulton for duet improvisation, Marcus Robinson for monologue, and James Kenner for set design. As for 12th grade students, Friday marks the start of Senior Week. Friday evening is "Grad-Night" at Disney World. The all-night extravaganza at the Magic Kingdom will be enjoyed by many Killian seniors. Ticket sales continue for the 1978 Senior Dinner-Dance, traditionally known as the "Prom." The Prom is set for May 29 from 7:30 to 1 a.m. at the Sheraton Four Ambassadors. Tickets are $28 per couple and will be sold through Friday. The annual Killian awards assembly will be held on May 19. Included in the presentations are club awards and the most prestigious award at Killian, the "Cougar" award. Last year; "Key" was named "Club of the Year" and Myra West, now a student at Northwestern University, was the recipient of the "Cougar" award.

Palmetto High / Juniors elect class officers

Linda Fullerton. Junior Class Officers were elected in a close race last week. They are: president, Jeff Levey, vice-president, Shana Dominguez, and secretary, Janet Deehl. The PTSA conducted its final meeting of the year last night, electing officers for the 1976-77 school year. Mrs. Ellen Beckford will be the PTSA's new president. A Cultural Arts Festival was presented after the meeting with performances by the Modern Dance Group, Band, and Omega Singers. A student art exhibit was also on display in the library. In honor of the Bicentennial, a history presentation of Palmetto High was given, highlighted by the donation of four portraits. These portraits are of our present principal, Dr. Turner and three past principals. On May 17, the Art Department held their seventh annual student art show with much success. A series of exhibits will be shown throughout the week. The Thespians are currently touring hospitals and area elementary schools with their production of Pinocchio. Many of the service clubs at Palmetto are concluding the year with banquets. Les Jeunes Filles had a Mother-Daughter Banquet at the Kings Bay Country Club on May 16 where they presented awards to outstanding members and installed next year's officers. Presenting awards and the installation of new officers will also be on the agenda at the Key Club Banquet to be held at the Crooked Creek Country Club on May 30 at 7:30 p.m. The Math Honor Society defeated the teachers of the Math department, 16 to 12 in a softball game on May 14.

South Miami High / Service clubs hold banquets

Lisa Tucker. The end of the 1975-76, school year is rapidly approaching. It is at this time each year that the different clubs hold their annual banquets. The Serpent's Tale staff had theirs at Sweden House Monday, May 10. Civinettes will have its awards banquet at the Peacock room in the Coconut Grove Playhouse on Sunday, May 30. The Cobra Marching Band will hold its affair at the Hampshire Inn June 4, and the Spanish Spirit will celebrate at the Fountainbleau Hotel, June 5. The 1976 De Capello yearbooks were distributed to the seniors last Monday night in the gym and the juniors and sophomores received theirs Tuesday. Afterwards, there was a big yearbook signing party complete with a live band. It's time once again to slick back your hair and roll up your pants. Yes, SMSH is having yet another '50s dance. It will be held in the cafeteria on Friday night, May 28. A reminder to all who wish to see the musical Godspell - the date has been changed to Wednesday, May 26. The admission is $2 and the play will be performed in the auditorium.
