Puzzle no puzzle to her

Mrs. Robert (Anne) Ward, of SW 62nd Ave., used to work crossword puzzles on the subway in New York when she was 18-years-old, but she never expected that the puzzles would bring her cash. Mrs. Ward won $25 in The Times/Guide puzzle contest this week and her smiling comment was, "I love to do puzzles and this one was really pretty easy. It's funny that it also turned out to be quite profitable." Mrs. Ward, whose late husband was an English professor at the University of Miami, is an avid golf and bridge player, but this weekend she entertained her four-year-old granddaughter, Rebecca, and worked our crossword puzzle. "I thought I might win because everyone else was too busy to do the puzzle," she said. "I just spent the holiday relaxing and reading the and doing puzzles. I love to do them." Anne Ward

CBers rally 'round little David

By ELIZABETH OWEN Staff Writer A group of South Dade Citizens Band Radio enthusiasts are again coming to the aid of David Montalvo. David, the seven-year-old son of Sandy Montalvo, and the adopted son of her husband, Rafael, must continue to undergo a series of expensive, complicated operations in New York to have his face reconstructed and his malformed hands worked on. The Montalvos, who live in South Dade, are depending heavily on the "David Relief Fund," a savings account opened by concerned citizens at Jefferson National Bank on Miami Beach to hep the boy's staggering medical costs. Saturday, July 10, the "South Dade CBers," will give a "break" and dance at the Plaza Pub, 645 English Ave., Homestead, from 9 p.m. until. Cost is $4 a couple, for those 18 and years and over only. All proceeds will go toward the David Relief Fund. A live country and western band will entertain, and prizes will be given away. Parking lot security will also be provided. Vicki Nevins, a member of the South Dade CBers who goes by the handle "Knee High" because of her tiny stature, helped organize the break. She said they expect at least 250 people to show, a guarantee of $500. "But we hope to raise considerably more than that," she said. Ms. Nevins said that "Copy Cat," a woman who belongs to the "Friday Night Coffee Break," another South Dade CB club which raised some $7,000 for David several months ago, suggested the idea to the South Dade CBers. David's mother Sandy said the David Relief Fund has about $10,000 in it now, but that it is slowly but surely being spent on David's trips to New York and subsequent surgery. Anyone who would like to contribute to the David Relief Fund can send a donation to the Jefferson National Bank on Miami Beach.
