sports roundup Columbus student qualifies for Jai Alai finals

Christopher Columbus High School student, Greg Coya, has qualified for the United States Amateur Jai Alai finals to be held at the Miami Jai Alai fronton on July 18. If Coya wins in the United States finals, he will compete in the world finals in December. This will be the first year since 1969 that the United States has hosted a world tournament. Last year in Mexico City, the United States team took top honors for the first time in the history of the ancient sport. Coya has been playing Jai Alai for the past five years. A backcourt player, he is noted for his strong reverse and rebote. His success qualifying for tournament play marks an unusual first for the record books. Coya is the first United States Amateur champion player to be left handed. Left handed players are extremely rare in Jai Alai because of the structure of the court with a wall on the left and a screen on the right requiring that the throwing "cesta" be worn on the right hand. The United States Amateur Jai Alai Association is a non-profit organization. No wagering on the tournament is allowed and there are no age restrictions on admissions. Tickets for the July 18 national finals may be purchased at Miami Jai Alai Fronton, 3500 NW 37th Ave.

Evans will be a returning letterman in both football and baseball.

Killian Private School KILLIAN LEARNING LABORATORY

P.O. Box 430794, S. Miami, Florida 33143 Dear Parents: Isn't it time for some straight talk about the fact that your child is just not reading properly and not performing well at his grade level? For whatever the reasons may be, there it is. Poor grades, lack of motivation, a low self-concept, general disinterest, perhaps the beginnings of disciplinary problems at school and at home... are all symptomatic of the youngster who has not, or cannot, achieve success. His inability to read, comprehend what he reads, and express himself to those ends are trigger mechanisms to academic failure and, perhaps, social failure. It is not only Language Arts that suffers, it is Social Studies, the Sciences, and, yes, Mathematics. The Killian Private School, in a full time academic program, devotes the major thrust of its energies to the remediation of language arts skills difficulties. Certainly, the science, mathematics, and social studies disciplines are included... but not to the detriment of the reading skills progression. It becomes axiomatic: if reading skills and appreciation of those skills are improved, all other academic pursuits must be improved. Our classes are small - each student is tested, evaluated, and set upon an individualized approach to the remediation of his reading problems. What approach??? Whatever necessary to meet the specific needs of the specific child. Through care and attention over the past fifteen years, the Killian Private School has been successful. Through combinations of programs, including work experience for those youngsters sixteen years and older, our students do find success. We are preparing for the fall term now. Your inquiries are invited, and our facilities are open to your inspection. The Killian Private School is a non-profit, federally tax exempt private school, co-educational, grades one through twelve, and does not discriminate for any reason....our business is teaching kids what they need to know. ATTENTION. At no cost to you, or obligation, the Killian Private School will be conducting free testing and evaluation of Language Arts skills between the dates of July 1, 1976, and July 30, 1976. Call now for your appointment. KILLIAN PRIVATE SCHOOL 5990 PONCE DE LEON BLVD. CORAL GABLES; FLA. 33193 666-7102, 666-7229
