area deaths BERKOWITZ

Lillian Lee Berkowitz, 61, of Coral Gables died July 9. She had been a Coral Gables resident for the past 33 years coming from Washington, D.C. Mrs. Berkowitz was an officer of the National Council of Jewish Women, Women's American O.R.T., Beth David Congregation Sisterhood, Hadasah, Mt. Sinai Women Auxilary and Breath of Life. She is survived by her husband, Al; two sons, Leonard of York, Pa. and Arthur of Miami; daughter, Francine of Miami; two brothers, Max Klevit of Philadelphia, Pa. and Robert Klevit of Silversprings, Md.; three sisters, Sophie Shapiro, Ester Lazarus, and Sadie Singer, all of Silversprings, Md.; and three grandchildren, Pamela, Sharon and Joshua. Services will take place Sunday, 11 a.m. at Spector Hall-Beth David Congregation, 2625 SW 3rd Ave., Miami, under the direction of Gordon Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the family plot at Woodlawn Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in memory be made to the American Cancer Society.

Janet Friedman, 83, of 1335 Sorolla Ave., Coral Gables, died July 6. She was the widow of the late William Friedman and is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Bernard Sutta; son, Milton Friedman; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held Thursday, July 8, at Gordon Funeral Home. Burial took place at Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
