Take the helm in sailing class
Like to take the helm on a Morgan 36T sailboat and find out a lot about sailing in the process? Then take Ned Rosenbloom's Sailboat Handling course at Ponce de Leon Community School, starting Wednesday, Feb. 23. The American Red Cross course includes six two-hour lectures on how to sail, getting under sail, navigating, docking, yacht design and required equipment. Students will put their knowledge to good use in two half-day trips on Rosenbloom's sailboat, in which everybody will take turns tending lines and taking the helm. Fee is $20. bles High School say hello to Broadway with their production of "Bye, Bye Birdie" this Thursday and Friday, Feb. 10 and 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium, 450 Bird Road. Over 250 students, including members of the orchestra and choral department, combine to present the musical. Tickets are $2.
Plant show
If you'd like your ailing plant diagnosed by an expert, bring a sample sick leaf to the Third Annual South Florida Plant Fair, this Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 10 through 13, in Dinner Key Auditorium. Lou Daigle, of the Cooperative Extension Service, will analyze your plant and also give a slide presentation and lecture on Plant Diseases, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. Other horticulture experts will give lectures, and plants to buy will abound. Show hours are Thursday, 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission is $1.50 for adults, and 75 cents for children under 12.

Learn to do patchwork, pieced or appliqued quilts in a course offered by the Coral Gables Youth Center starting Feb. 9.
