Three Tots Injured In Gables Wreck
Three tots were injured in a two-car crash at the intersection of Coral Way and Hernando Street the morning of April 20. Among the injured were seven-month-old Abbey Hollander and Pamela Hollander, 23 months, passengers in a car driven by their mother, Sharron K. Hollander, 26, of 2784 SW 30th Ct. The baby was treated at Doctors' Hospital for ear, nose and eye injuries and shock. The other Hollander child was treated for a head injury and shock. According to Officer Gene Bell, the Hollander car was westbound on Coral Way shortly after 10:30 a.m. when it collided with the rear of another westbound car driven by Viola D. Phillips, 38, of 2941 NW 173rd Ter., which was making a right turn at Hernando. Michael Durante, 1, of 17331 NW 29th Place, a passenger in the Phillips car also suffered minor injuries, Bell reported. The injured were given emergency treatment by Gables firemen. The cars were not seriously damaged and no charge was filed in the accident.

Salzedo-Giralda Corner Gas Station Refusal Leads to Law Suit
A suit has been filed in Circuit Court to force the City of Coral Gables to permit a gas station on the northeast corner of Giralda Ave. and Salzedo Street. City officials were served with the mandamus action papers Tuesday. The owner of the property, R. Ernest Nitzsche, sought permission from the city back on January 17 to erect a station, but was turned down. Commissioners indicated at the time that they might have okayed the necessary variances on the proposed station had it involved removal of a station from Ponce de Leon Blvd. But Nitzsche sought to make a new home for the General Tire station across the street on the northwest corner of Salzedo and Giralda which he claimed was being forced out on a lease expiration. No date for the trial has been set.
