Times Photographer Lang Has His Work Featured

Raymond Lang, a reporter and photographer for the Times, has one of his photographs featured on the front page of the Aug. 5 Publishers' Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is one of the leading trade papers of the newspaper industry and is published weekly. Lang's photograph is of three children splashing in Venetian Pools and is unusual for the sparkle effect achieved in the water. The Auxiliary commented that it expects to run more of young Lang's work. A 23-year-old native of Miami, he has been with the Times for two years, joining the staff while a senior at the University of Miami. His camera work is entirely self-taught since joining the newspaper. He was praised by the Times' editor and publisher, Rolfe Neill, for the imagination brought to photographic subjects. The Auxiliary, after looking at some of his work, commented: "Lang is never flustered by seemingly dull, routine assignments." RAYMOND LANG

Oral Exams For Police Promotions

Oral exams to select a new police lieutenant and sergeant and a detective and juvenile officer have been scheduled by the Coral Gables Police Department Aug. 21-23. Written exams were held recently. Only one man is eligible for the detective lieutenant job. He is Sgt. E. H. McGough. Three men, Lavelle Edwards, Don Clermont and G. B. Timanus, are eligible to take the oral exam for detective sergeant and 14 policemen may take the detective and juvenile officers exam, according to Personnel Director Robert Harrison.

Jewelry Theft

A jewelry salesman reported the theft of $8,000 in merchandise from his room at the Casa Grande Motel, 5200 SW Eighth St., Saturday. Arnold Farkas, the victim told Coral Gables the jewels were taken from his room in his absence. Det. Don Clermont said there was evidence the door had been tampered with.
