PEOPLE Places & Things

Avhlee and George Dempsey of Blue Road, who are touring California, say this on a foot-long picture postcard of the Golden Gate Bridge: "California has mountains, smog, fog and mountains. Our climate is much better." After a visit to Virginia City, Reno, Salt Lake City and Denver, and all points south, they'll be coming home. * * * Mrs. A. M. Tyler and grandson, Ken, of 20 N. Prospect Dr., are spending a few weeks where it is cool in North Carolina. They are guests at an inn at Hendersonville. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bennett, 4050 Poinciana Ave., members of the Coral Gables Country Club's Women's Golf Association and the "Tenth Holders" (men's group) respectively, have been keeping in touch via the post card route. They took the North Cape cruise to Norway in June, sailing on the Carona and received their "diplomas" when they crossed the Artic Circle. While aboard the ship the last night out, Bobbie (Mrs Bennett) won the hat prize wearing an original creation of a song title. Her's was a paper plate filled with all fruits, excepting bananas, and named her creation, "Yes! We Have No Bananas." In Ireland it was Killarney, and in Scotland, Harold joined some old cronies, his clan in Oban. They are presently in Paris, and sail Sept. the 14th for home. * * * The key to her door is now 401 Alesio Ave., says Cecilia Utsey Kern on a formal card who with her son Chip, a senior-student-elect at Coral Gables High School, recently moved to the duplex from 3610 Alhambra Ct. * * * Mrs. Frank D. Webster postcards from Cheverly, Md., suburb of Washington, D.C., that she came east to visit her daughter Gwen, and family for the summer. But she has had her Times newspaper sent to her so "I will keep in touch with the home town news." * * * Two Coral Gables couples who are members of the All States Friendship Club left Saturday to visit fellow members Mr. and Mrs. EVERETT SMITH, 1526 Trevino Ave.; now at their summer home in Hendersonville, N.C. The visitors who'll stay for a week or 10 days are the TY GIBSONS, 401 Aurelia Ave., and the ERLE SCHNEIDERS, 1133 Placetas Ave. * * * Mrs. W. J. Hester and Mary Ann, her 18-year-old daughter, left their home on 239 Sarto Ave. this week to spend their vacation at Mackinaw Island, Michigan and Pittsburgh. They'll return Sept. 7. The Gableites will visit the relatives of the late Mr. Hester in Michigan and move on to Pittsburgh to visit Mrs. Hester's relatives. Mary Ann will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Miami, where she is pledging for Delta Gamma sorority. * * * Courtney and Mona Fondren and their daughter Mona returned last weekend from nearly two weeks in the Caribbean, especially the Virgin Islands where Mr. Fondren bought some land. "I'd been hearing everybody talk about it so I went to see for myself." On their return to 614 Altara Ave., they were visited by Mrs. Fondren's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Gary of Baton Rouge, La., who were returning from a trip to Bermuda.

WISE WORDS

Doing easily what others find difficult is talent; doing what is impossible for talent is genius.—Amiel The Lord opened unto me that being bred at Oxford or Cambridge was not enough to fit and qualify men to be ministers of Christ. — George Fox.
