Brothers Bear Their Names 'Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John-- Blest Be the Bed They Lay On'

FINDING THEIR NAMES in the Bible are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony DeCouto, 5350 SW 96th Ave. With their mother, left to right, are Matthew, John, David Luke (the two-week-old baby), and Mark. (Staff photo by Raymond Lang). By CHUCK SUNERGREN Correspondent Here is how a church-going family found a way of naming their four sons. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony DeCouto of 5350 SW 96th Ave. named each after one of the Four Gospels. They are Mark Anthony, 6; Matthew Seraphim 4; John Andrew 3; and David Luke, who only arrived this month (Aug. 8). The DeCoutos are members of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in the Gables, 110 Phonetia Ave. How did Mr. and Mrs. DeCouto decide on this solution? "Well," said the boys' mother, "the first one was named Mark because I always liked the name and of course his middle name came from his father. "The second one we wanted to name after my husband's father, Seraphim; being a Biblical name we thought the rest of his name should come from the Bible. "When the third one arrived we thought we might as well keep up the tradition in case we should have four boys, and sure enough we did!" What if one of them had been a girl? "Well," laughed Mrs. DeCouto, "the last one, David Luke, did disappoint me a little bit. He was supposed to be Lisa. "But I'm really proud of my boys although I would love to have a girl."

$400,000 Library Definite; Building To Be Up in '62

Barring a calamity, Coral Gables will have its new library next year. "It will be," City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr., said emphatically this week. "It's scheduled to be built next year." Robinson's statement followed the recent selection of Library Building Consultants Inc. at $5,800 to work with architect Ed Rempe and Librarian Margaret Beaton in planning the new $400,000 facility. The consulting firm is made up of prominent head librarians from all over the country who will study local needs and make their recommendations. Ernest Miller, a member of the firm, is scheduled to arrive here Monday to get the work underway. He will begin immediate conferences with Miss Beaton, Robinson said. A tentative report will then be made, which will then be subjected to a critique of the entire group of consultants. The upshot will be a final recommended plan. Rempe will then have all the information to complete the design building. Site of the library will be the odd-shaped city-owned lot immediately west of City Hall on Biltmore Way. The five-sided piece of property is approximately 188 feet long on one side and 145 feet on an other with 120 foot frontage. Robinson said that construction of the library at that location will necessitate double-decking of the city parking lot behind City Hall. Overhead walkways between the library, neighboring buildings are likely to be incorporated into the final design, Robinson said: Coral Gables has an over-crowded library facility in the Woman's Club building, located on East Ponce de Leon Boulevard. The new location would also be more central.

Objections Overruled They're Out of Gas; Service Station OK'd

Even the pleas of a former U.S. Senator and a dozen other objectors failed to deter the Coral Gables City Commission from approving a new gas station Tuesday on the southwest corner of Giralda Avenue and Douglas Road. The commission voted 3-0 over the objections of ex-senator Claude Pepper and others to grant a permit to General Realty Corporation to erect the station and tire store. In doing so, Commissioners Franklin Evans and George Wilson and Mayor Robert Searle sustained the Zoning Board, which had voted 4-1 to permit the required zoning (See Gas, Page 2)

You, Too, Judge?

Metro Judge Charles H. Snowden had a red face one day last week. His car, while backing out, bumped into a Coral Gables police car in the police station parking lot causing minor damage. When Officer Lamar Gilbert arrived to file a report, Judge Snowden discovered he had forgotten his license.

NO LONGER will boys play in this vacant lot at Douglas Road and Giralda Avenue. A service station will be erected. Playing while they can are Robert Tanenbaum (left), 3685 SW 21st St., and Tommy Hadoulias, 3684 SW 21st St. (Staff Photo by Raymond Lang).
