by helen reynolds society editor The announcement today, of the engagement of Joan Squire Halifax and Ensign Robert A. Ambrose, brings to mind a cute little item about Joan's first appearance in the press. Seems Joan's birth in Hanover, N.H., was carried on the front page of the Riviera Times. It was sent in by dispatch from Hanover to Coral Gables. Joan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Halifax of 3501 Durango St. Her fiance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Z. C. Ambrose of Houston, Texas. A spring wedding is planned by the couple. The bride-elect was graduated from Stuart Hall, Staunton, Va., and now attends Newcomb College for Women, Tulane University, New Orleans, La., where she is a major in languages and the theatre. She is secretary-treasurer of the Tulane University Theatre. She is also active in the Acappella choir. This summer Joan worked with the Shakespearean Festival held at the Lowe Art Gallery on the UM campus. She is a member of the Junior Assembly, Riviera and Palmetto Country Clubs. Her fiance graduated from Tulane University in June. At Tulane he was a member of Kappa Sigma, social fraternity and Omicron Delta Kappa, national honor society. He was also Commander of the Naval ROTC, member of the honor board Tulane Architecture College, and on the Tulane honor council. He was also listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Ensign Ambrose is now stationed aboard the Destroyer, U.S.S. Brush in the Western Pacific. Miss Halifax * * * Mrs. Ennis "Pete" Peterson, 3616 Ponce de Leon Blvd., will be attending out-of-town schools and colleges this fall. for realtors... other folks, too!

Dade County Realty 9508 Bird Rd. CAnal 1-5445 August 7, 1961 JEAN ZIDE, REG. BROKER The Times/The Guide 564 Sevilla Ave. Coral Gables, Fla. Gentlemen: I have meant to write you for several weeks but the press of keeping up with a busy office has not allowed it. Sales, closings, affidavits, renovating and refinancing keep a girl busy! However, I want to tell you how thrilled we are with the results from our recent ads in your papers. The first week we advertised we sold a $30,000 house in Merion Park and a $10,000 house on S. W. 92nd St. This all came from an investment of $3 in your classified section. The following week we rented a small house for $85 monthly. Two weeks later, we sold a $22,000 house in Merion Park and got several good prospects, two of whom we expect to close in the next few days. Putting it mildly, we were flabbergasted with the results your papers have given us, all for just $12 so far. Our phone rings constantly, even days later, asking for the house they saw in your classified section. Thanks again for your excellent service. Next week we shall be in new, larger quarters at 6703 Bird Road...do come and see us. Yours very truly, DADE COUNTY REALTY Jean Zide Jean Zide jz/do
