PEOPLE Places & Things

Sandra Allik, 1414 Tangier Ave., is one of 88 students from 43 American colleges and universities who sailed from New York last Thursday for a year's study under the Junior Year in France program administered by Sweet Briar. She was among the 11 students who were selected from Wellesley College. ★ ★ ★ It was dinner for six when Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Abraham of South Alhambra Cir., entertained at Black Caesar's Forge. Guests were Anthony's brothers, George, and Joseph, and their wives. Occasion? birthday for Loretta, George's wife. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. P. J. O'Shaughnessy, whose late husband, Lt. Col. P. J. O'Shaughnessy built the two story home, at 3238 Riviera Dr., in the 1930's where they lived so many years, has sold the house and is now residing in an apartment at 626 "C" Valencia Ave. The new owners are the Dan Thomases and their family formerly of Hialeah. Thomas is a flyer with the Riddle Airlines Inc. ★ ★ ★ It's back to the college grind for these girls: Linda Walters, 7028 Mindello, Denise Edwards, 116 San Esteban; Ann Eldredge, 6300 Riviera Dr., all students at Florida State University; Mona Fondren, 614 Altara, Sophie Newcombe; Ginny Aber, 1111 Aduana, Vanderbilt; and Patricia Moore, 928 Andres, Middlebury. The girls are members in college of Pi Beta Phi. Mrs. James F. Moore, 6908 Altamira Ave., is president of the alumnae club. ★ ★ ★ Joe and Mrs. Mantinan, he's administrative assistant to City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr., returned recently from old Mexico where he reports he had a Latin good time. Mantinan, a member of the Gables Lions Club, tells of a hilarious meeting of that group he attended in a small Mexican town. One of the Latin Lions came bursting into a meeting on a burro's bask. And you think the local Lions are boisterous! ★ ★ ★ Mayor Robert L. Searle and Commissioners Joe Murphy, Dr. Franklin Evans and George Wilson returned last week from Seattle, Wash., where they attended a conference of the American Municipal Congress. It'll take them a while to get readjusted to the lack of altitude around here but not the attitude. Dr. Evans couldn't pass up the temptation to fly on to Juneau, Alaska, which he said he found "awesome and rugged." All the commissioners took in a bit of salmon fishing, which is a bit more challenging than angling for catfish. No trip to the wild and wicked West is complete without a stop at Las Vegas, Nev., so our commissioners decided to drop into the wildest, wickedest of them all. Miami, it is reported, is as pure as the driven snow when compared to all the techniques devised in Vegas to separate a sucker from his money and virtue.
