Love on Court or In Church

Every Monday and Thursday morning, 22 little boys and girls quietly leave their kindergarten class at St. Philip's Episcopal Church and take a brief walk across the street. They're then at Salvadore Park and it's time for tennis pro Jack Cook to teach his young charges what he can of the game. The children's supervisor is Mrs. William Moore. 'Don't Walk on My Lawn'

No threats are going to deter him from trying to get what's legally his, Le Jeune Road property owner Clarence Brandes said Tuesday. Brandes, who lives at the southeast corner of Malaga Avenue and Le Jeune, said he has turned down offers to settle his claim for a small portion of his property. The matter is still in litigation, he said. Meanwhile, Brandes continues to refuse to let contractors on his property to construct a sidewalk unless they'll build a retainer. "Don't come on my property of you're not going to do it right," Brandes said he told state and county officials. The City has threatened to invoke its sidewalk ordinance requiring all property owners to have safe sidewalks if Brandes refuses to cooperate in the Le Jeune Road widening program.
