Gas Mains In Gables? Not Likely

Officials of City Gas Co. have asked Gables Commissioners to hear their plan to bring natural gas to the City - a plan officials say would tear up city streets. The request by Joe Dumond, Miami city commissioner and representative of City Gas, met with a cool reception from City Commissioners. Mayor Robert L. Searle indicated Tuesday that the idea of tearing up streets, did not seem to be warranted. "I could see it if Coral Gables were an industrial city," Searle said, "but I can't see any need for it now." Natural gas came to Florida on the wings of promises of lower gas rates for consumers. Bottled liquified petroleum is still in use here. Natural gas originates in wells in the Southwestern United States and is piped to large urban and industrial areas. City Commissioners agreed to meet with the group some day next week to hear its proposal.

At CG Congregational Behind 3 Preachers, 3 Psychologists

By RAYMOND LANG (See Picture Profile, Page 4) For five years, Coral Gables Congregational Church has called on three psychologists in its congregation to help hundreds of troubled people. Who are these people? Those among the church's 1,400 members or anyone in the community in need of psychological counseling. Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night, from 6 to 10 p.m., at the church on 3010 DeSoto Blvd., the psychologists give their own time to help people. "They run the gamut," said one psychologist, speaking of the many problems he and his co-workers run up against. For ethical reasons, the men will not be named in this article. "Emotional problems are just like physical problems; there are all kinds, ranging in degrees," he said. "And we do a lot of counseling in terms of marital conflict, in terms of parent-child conflict. One time a husband brought in his alcoholic wife." A guilt feeling that leads to a physical ill is a major problem, the psychologist said. He gave an example. A man complained that his heart was not beating regularly and he was afraid. The psychologist analyzed this fear. The fear of the heart stopping prematurely, said the psychologist, stemmed from a feeling of guilt for something the patient had done in the past. This physical ill, which now caused him grief, was "an unconscious way of punishing himself," the psychologist went on. Dr. Fred E. Cole, pastor of Coral Gables Congregational, said the guidance program has helped hundreds of people. Those who have asked for help, have been grateful and made every effort to work along with the psychologists, Dr. Cole said. "The sad thing about it," Dr. Cole went on," is that in almost every single instance, the problem has gotten so bad, whatever it is . . . that the person is almost to the breaking point before he will seek out help." All consultations are by appointment. Dr. Cole said the usual procedure is for the troubled person to approach him, or the Revs. Howard Huntzicker and Charles Hicks, also of the church, and ask for help. If the problem is so deep the minister does not feel he can adequately handle it, Dr. Cole said, the case will be referred to one of the three psychologists. If the person can afford it, there is a nominal charge for the service. "But no one is ever turned away who has a problem," Dr. Cole concluded.

South Dade Business Review All We Can Do Is Help You

FOR INFORMATION ON THIS SECTION CALL HI 3-1661 The advertising you read in the South Dade Business Review is specialized. And it brings special results to the people who use it. Our Business Review enables a merchant or a service organization to tell a special story. It goes beyond the traditional form of newspaper advertising where the briefest of information is given with the price and perhaps a drawing. In Business Review, the advertiser is able to tell at length the merits of what he has to offer. He may very well use other space in the newspaper as well. But in Business Review he has available to him the ample space needed to explain features. For instance: A dress shop might run a picture of a dress and its price, locating the ad in the women's section of the paper. But the owner feels the need to stress some of the special services he gives. He has free alterations, even on sale items. He may have more liberal credit than some of his competitors. His sales persons may have backgrounds that make them particularly qualified. The atmosphere of his store, the brands he carries, the whole tone of the business may be something he wishes to talk about. This is just one example of what Business Review can offer. The test material is supplemented with photographs to add impact and visual appeal. People are curious. You can take advantage of it. Unquestionably, greater sales are built when a high degree of personal relationship is built between the seller and the buyer. Business Review is peculiarly fitted to help establish such a relationship. There are several classifications still open for this section. If you are interested in more sales, let us show you how to get them. Call HI 3-1661 and one of our professionally-trained personnel will assist you.
