The UM Baroque Ensemble, composed of all University music faculty members, will give its second recital of the season at 8:30 p.m. Monday in Beaumont Hall. Members of the group are Eugene Johnson, flute; Lucas Drew, double bass; Jeffrey Stoll, piano; and Victor Stern, viola. The Scranton Club of Greater Miami will celebrate its tenth anniversary Feb. 24 at the Miami Shores Country Club. Walter Basalyga, 4320 Monseratte St., the club's auditor, and Mrs. Basalyga will attend the dinner at 7 p.m. with dancing following. The club, with 500 members, is composed of former residents of Scranton, and all newcomers from Scranton are welcome to attend. David E. Pettengill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard W. Pettengill Sr., of 2613 Cordova St., completed his training at the Aviation Candidate School of the Naval Air Station, Pensacola last month. He received his wings as a Naval aviator. Elizabeth Ann Whitcomb, a 1960 graduate of Coral Gables High School, has been accepted as a member of the Spring semester freshman class at Florida Southern College, Lakeland. Elizabeth is the daughter of Mrs. Margaret Dorsey, 635 San Antonio Ave. Everglades School for Girls, and the Ransom School for Boys are joining forces and will present "The Pirates of Penzance," by Gilbert and Sullivan, Feb. 22 at 8:15 p.m. Also there are shows on Friday with a matinee Saturday. In the cast from both schools are Judy Keller, Brad Loury, Michael Hood, Judy Golden, Brian Annis, Beverly Brown, Jourdain Moore, Sally Hogg, Jeremy Gates, Kent Lantaff. In the chorus will be Beth Miale, Connie Mac Leod Cherlene Van Tosh, Hanna Dyer, Judy Dyer, Chris Emory and Delia Duke. "Pirates" are Linda Davies, Arnold Norris, Linda Glass, Wendy Murphy, Jean Williams, Clara Dela Conover, Paul Dey, Charles Seimon and Clifford Goodman. "Policemen" will be Pauline Rowe, Sally Baxter, Carol Ann Norton, Marti Brisco, Robin Sutcliffe. Sappy Kappel, Madeline Grilley, Judy Walker, Alfred Demaris, Bobby Hunter and Ralph McGuire. Margaret C. Moore is the overall director; Helen Gaston, costume arranger; and Martha Tamanus art work and stage scenery. The Coral Gables Civic Club's annual fund raising event (donations for its wheel chair fund will take place at noon Feb. 22nd at the Coral Gables Woman's Club. It is a dessert card party. Mrs. W. H. Linnemeir, HI 8-2029 is taking reservations. Mrs. Reginald McAll, 760 Anastasia Ave., will be the hostess Wednesday for the annual dinner meeting of the Miami Wellesley Club.

RACHEL

Rachel Mathes, daughter of the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. F. A. Mathes, 900 University Dr., has the lead role in Puccini's opera, "Il Taboro" and is currently touring as soloist with the Birmingham Southern Concert Choir. A student at Birmingham-Southern College, Rachel was winner of Birmingham's most important competition for young musicians, the Music Club auditions last year. The choir will appear in Coral Gables March 18 at Granada Presbyterian Church.

Hilda Mary Kenner, daughter of Rear Admiral William W. Kenner and Mrs. Kenner, 3411 Toledo Plaza, is one of three seniors at Woman's College, University of North Carolina, receiving "excellent" ratings in English. The awards were for work in a co-ordinating course for English majors.

Sonya Balogh, violinist, will be guest artist Sunday at the 4 p.m. program at the Musicians Club of America, 303 Minorca Ave. She will be accompanied at the piano by Virginia Urban. A scholarship student at the Julliard School of Music, Miss Balogh began study of the violin at the age of five. The program is open to the public at no charge.

Miss Peggy Borman, daughter of Mrs. Jane C. Borman, 1528 San Remo Ave., will be honored at a bridal shower Saturday at the Dixie Bell Inn. Hostess will be Miss Nancy Colson of 5717 SW 58th Ct. and guests will be high school friends of Peggy's, bride elect of Perry Kennedy of Miami.

Marine Lance Cpl. Wayne A. Sanderson, son of Mrs. Florence Sanderson, 41 Campina Ct., participated in a six-week training at Vieques, Puerto Rico, with the Second Marine Regiment.

A program of American music will be given at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Women's Club. Linda Sool Demby, violinist; Francelle Bellomy, pianist; and Bernice Ripley, soprano, will entertain.

4,000 See Flower Show Here; Top Awards Are Presented

Some 4,000 people flocked to the second annual Coral Gables Garden Club flower show last Saturday and Sunday. People from Bradenton to Key West entered their exhibits in the show at the U.S. Armory on the University of Miami campus. The divisions and winners were: Artistic: Mrs. Charles A. Horrworth. Special award winners were Mrs. George Wilson, Mrs. William J. Bradford Jr., Mrs. Robert Bradley and Mrs. E. J. Dunnigan. A special award in the Japanese educational exhibit went to Mrs. C. M. Ballard. Horticultural: Mrs. Theron Ames won the sweepstakes award in begonias and Fred Jesse received an award for the most outstanding specimen approaching horticultural perfection. Foliage: George Allen of Homestead. Flowering plants: Mrs. James Rankin. Cut flowers: Mrs. William Grey. African violet: Mrs. John A. Chestnut won for the South Florida African Violet Society and J. E. Moody won as an independent. Roses: Queen of the Show went to Mrs. W. W. McCord of Pompano. King of the Show went to Louis Ernest of North Miami. Paul Walker won a bronze medal. Mrs. S. M. Greene won the top award in the rose section with Mrs. Dorothy Naves winning in the Hybrid Tea division. Other winners in the show were Mrs. Robert J. Camp, Mrs. Norman Hendry, Mrs. Frank Race, Mrs. Tom Johnston and Mrs. Ernest Jones.
