Gables High Gathers Honors
By JOYCE DENIS Correspondent Distinction is definitely the proper adjective for Gables High. Representing the school in keen competition this summer was Susan Ward of 7521 SW 57th Ave., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ward, outstanding Junior Achiever from Gables High. She received the national title of Miss Junior Achievement at Bloomington, Ind. Saturday afternoon, at 3 o'clock on Channel 10, Mark Fisher, Jim Fisher, and Bobo Lozoff can be seen defeating other school spelling teams. The new half-hour show features teams of students from the Dade and Broward County high schools competing against each other in an old-fashioned spelling bee. Still other students, Genny McGlannon and George (Gil) Wheeler, are among the student models in the fashion showings at Burdine's Dadeland store on Oct. 6 and 13. These shows are presented by the Youth Board, of which Genny and Gil are members. Plans have been made by Donna Knowles, Cavaleon editor, Susan Gertman, business manager; and Mrs. Marlene Adams, faculty adviser to attend the National Scholastic Press Association convention for yearbook staffs at Columbia University, New York City. The trio leaves Oct. 18 for their stay at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
