THE CURIO SHOP, newest addition to Coral Gables, will have a grand opening Saturday afternoon and evening at 247 Malaga Ave. With a bust of Apollo, one of the more than 2,000 curios they brought from their previous shop in Pittsburgh, are owners, left, William K. Antique Gallery Opening

An antique gallery—containing everything from personal treasures from mansions of Pittsburgh's 18th-Century steel barons to tavern tables from America's earliest "bars" — opens its doors at 247 Malaga Ave., Coral Gables, Saturday. "The Curio Shop and Antique Gallery" was moved to its Coral Gables location from its former site at Fifth Ave., in Pittsburgh, near the University of Pittsburgh. It had been established there in 1939. Owners E. J. Robinson and W. K. Bell have moved the entire stock of antiques to Coral Gables over the past three months and have located them in the new site, a 3,600 square foot building which once housed Phyllis Kapp Dance Studios. "We had come to Miami Beach for a furniture show last year," Robinson said. "We became so impressed with this area that we decided to find a site and move the curio Shop here ... even though we have been at our original site right behind Forbes Field for almost 24 years. Robinson is past president of the Society of Early American Glass.

Publix' 2nd Unit May Get Started; New Plan Offered

It may be back to the old Publix Supermarket Plan at Nervia Street and Madruga Avenue after months of delay. City Commissioners Monday moved to set a meeting with neighboring property owners who sued to block Publix. The City has two landscaped parkway plans to offer at the proposed meeting, but they may cost the abutting property owners as much as $15 a front foot, enough perhaps to make them long for the old way. City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. has been asked to recheck the figure, which would result in a $27,000 cost on one version, which the Commission found high. The Santonna-Nervia Corp., owners of a large apartment next to the proposed Publix, is leading the property owners in the suit. The store would be Publix' second here. Litigants initially sought to block the market by influencing the City Commission to drop plans to vacate an alley to create a unified tract. But, Publix, which had the proper zoning, redesigned its building and placed it on one side of the alley and used the other side for parking. Property owners also sought to block this plan before the City Commission but failed. In July, the property owners filed suit in Circuit Court. Monday, the Commission said some of the litigants would like to go back to the old plan.
